Keith Moon, The Who drummer who died in 1978, was invited to play at the Olympics Ever since Beijing put on one of the most spectacular coordinated displays in human history at the 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony, observers have wondered how London could possibly improve on it. This would be a start. Organizers for the 2012 ceremony recently asked the manager of The Who if legendary drummer Keith Moon would be able to perform at the London Games. Not the artists fault, but two years ago James Moody was supposed to play the Blue Note in New York. He didn't. He had surgery for his cancer. But the Blue Note still billed it as James Moody and his band. I went expecting to see him. I even asked when making my reservations, "I heard he just had surgery. Is James Moody still playing?" I was told yes, but his replacements were Eric Alexander, Antonio Hart and Chris Potter. All three were very good, but having the club lie wasn't too nice. Eve when I arrived at the club the posters on the door made it seem Moody would be playing.

I've kept a diary of the shows I have seen.

Out of curiosity I am wondering how many jazz sets, concerts you've attended over the years. Does one stand our over all the rest? I am close to 300. The one that I get a warm and fuzzy feeling was Count Basie and his Orchestra in 1981. It was at the New Savoy Ball Room in Harlem, NY. Basie came out in a motorized wheelchair. He was helped up to the piano, but once he started playing, he was the Basie we all know.
