Today I was listening to a number of Duke Ellington CDs. I noticed Irving Mills has several writing credits on a number Ellington tunes. I highly doubt Mills had a hand in writing these pieces; after all he was Duke's manager and publisher. Is this just another case, similar to a band leader putting his name on a tune someone in the band wrote, or something else? With Ellington such a major force in the music business, why did he allow it? He could have gone to almost any other publisher, or even started his own publishing company. Anyone have some insight to this?

#1 does sound like Pharaoh Sanders on tenor. The rest of the band I have no clue.

I am over 12 tb of music on hard drives. Most music is stored as either WAV or Flac.

Anyone here ever hear Dexter Gordon playing Ornettte Coleman's "Blues Connotation"? I would never imagine Dexter playing an Ornette Coleman tune, but he did and he does a damn good job at it. It's from a radio broadcast I recently came upon. Any other covers that you wouldn't expect to hear played by an artists?

I watched both sets and was not impressed. But I've never been a fan of Wynton's jazz playing.

I did see the Pharaoh Sanders Quartet last night at Dizzy's. It was a great show. Even got to sit next to Wynton Marsalis who kept murmuring whenever he liked a phrase in one of the musicians' solos.

A lot of his recording had reverb over his voice. He didn't need reverb; sort of the Auto Tune of the 60s and 70s.
