  2. I wish Woody was still with us and giving us new music.
  3. Reading through this thread, there are polar recommendations from everyone. I guess I will dab a bit in each decade to start.
  4. Well, I guess USB turntables are not what I am after. I don't want to have poor sound. I do want to listen to my LPs. I just only see stores selling USB turntables today. I'll have to look on ebay for a turntable.

  6. That was funny. How great would it be if there was one more Beatles' album?
  7. My Pioneer turntable that I bought back around 1980 recently died. Are USB turntables worth looking at as a replacement?

  10. I only have two Sun Ra sessions, "Sound of Joy" and "Reflections in Blue." Anything from his myriad of sessions worth a listen?

  14. Same here, except I got the music when it first came out (on vinyl). Bought the first three LPs and skipped the fourth one! This seems to be the general consensus (that CD4 isn't that interesting), which is probably why it didn't circulate as much and is the most expensive now... Yeah but disc 4 has Jimmy Smith and Lou Donaldson plus some Kenny Burrell. I do know from reading about this concert, Alfred Lion wanted Hank Mobley to play, but Hank was no longer playing. He was in the audience. I wonder how hard it must have been for him seeing all his colleagues up on stage and he couldn’t be a part of the celebration.
  15. Thanks. I check Amazon and didn't come across this.
  16. I have the DVD and CD combo of this. Is there another iteration of this? I was talking to someone that told me there is a 4 CD issue of this concert. I've never seen that. What I have is this. Blue Note concert. Is there a 4 CD release of this concert? If so I need to find somewhere where it is being sold. Here is what a friend has. I've never seen this, only the DVD or DVD/CD release. 17. I just watched a show on PBS about Record Rama, the man who has the world's largest record collection and ran the largest record store in Pittsburgh. http://recordrama.com/. Due to poor health he has been looking for a buyer for his collection. During the show he mentions that the Library of Congress when looking at his collection told him that only 17% of music that once was on records between 1944 and 1966 is available today. That's means 83% of recorded music between those years are either locked up in record companies' vaults or lost forever. The current asking price for the collection is 3 million. If you can catch the program, watch it.

  24. When the ad campaign for the Energizer Bunny first started the ad agency must have had Randy Weston in mine. Last night I saw Randy Weston and his African Rhythms. For a man at 85 you could not tell by the way he moves around during the concert. Randy Weston T.K. Blue Neil Clarke Robert Traurig Alex Blake At one point Randy got up from the piano and started dancing around like Monk.
