  1. What's the fascination with artists who died tragically in war? I watched a show on baseball players that went to war, and how many of their stats were of effected. Ted Williams spent 4 years. Had he not been in the service his 521 career home rums may have been well over 650. I just wondered how many musicians went into the service.
  2. Roy Brooks Brooks Brothers Brothers Grimm
  3. Propaganda reasons I guess, getting shot down sounds better when telling the American public. I could imagine the news reels saying Glenn Miller was killed while in a Paris brothel while refusing to pay.
  4. Odd it has a different title than the original. I've seen that before. It does say Gazell.
  5. Thanks Chuck. So what I just bought must have been reissue. The set list matches but the cover on mine is all black and "Meeting of the Minds." WTF.
  6. I have an album from the 80s by Sonny Stitt called Meeting of the Minds with Art Blakey. It is with Art Blakey. I can't find any refference to this album. Could it have be originally released under a different title. I am sure my copy is a reissue. I just picked this up for $1.99. Some little pops but the record is pretty clean. The date on the back says 1982. I can't believe there isn't too much information on the record. I found this on allmusic. There is no information, but I am sure it is the same session. My album tells me shit. I want to know the year it was recorded. album The album opens with Blues March.
  7. Outside of Glenn Miller being shot down over the English Channel I can't think of any other jazz musician that died in the war. I know there were many that fought in WWII. Were there others that died as of a result of the war?
  8. Sam Donaldson Son of Sam Jeffery Dahmer
  9. If you have read Jimmy Heath's autobiography, he talks about teaching at jazz mobile one Saturday morning when Lee Morgan walks in with a woman. He interrupts Jimmy's class and says, "Hey Jimmy, look at my new lady." Jimmy said he didn't like being interrupted, and also he knew Lee had a woman that he had been with for some time. Odd seeing him with another. That night, Lee was shot and killed at Slugs by the woman he was cheating on. Anyone ever see or hear the performance Lee and his band did on the PBS show "Soul"? It was done just days before he died.

  11. I played this in high school. I tied to play jazz on it and my music teacher said to me in his heavy Italian accident. "Stop, you don't playa jazz on that instrument."
  12. Les Miserables Liam Neeson Uma Thurman
  13. Bea Arthur Betty White Estelle Getty
  14. I know it was common practice in the 30s and 40s for the band leader to get writing credits when they had nothing to do with the composing of a song, 'Round Midnight is one such case. Wouldn't Hank Jones have copy-written the tune? I wonder how Nat thought he could get away with this.

  16. Good for you Allen.

  18. thanks for the answer.
  19. I never bothered to get the RVG remaster of this session. But I noticed today that the 6th track on the remaster is different than what I have on my CD. My copy has Alison's Uncle as the 6th track, while the RVG has Bangoon as the 6th track. Now I will have to get the RVG so I can have this track. Anyone know why the switch?
  20. Looks nice - what manufacturer? Sansui. Never heard of it before. The photo I found on eBay. It is the same model as what I bought.
  21. It was $75. Not a bad price I think.
  22. That's what I've done. There is a local store that sells albums. They also had turntables. I just need a new cartridge.
  23. There isn't a stereo store in town with used equipment? A place like this: http://www.yelp.com/biz/saturday-audio-exchange-chicago or this: http://www.decibel.com/ ? Decibel does ship, and I would trust them way more than a random ebay store. While they make their money from DJ equipment, they do sell used turntables for people like us. I got a decent turntable from them for under $400. I would not go to BestBuy or the like. They only have one or two turntables brands in stock and they likely play at the wrong speed. That was certainly my experience. I did go to Best Buy and they only had two USB turntables.
