  13. Being at this concert I know why first hand. It took Ornette over 5 minutes to make it out on stage. Everytime you thought the mystery guess was coming out, he didn't. Sonny had to start blowing to keep the audince in the mood. Thanks, from the CD you really can't tell, because he says he has been told "someone is in the house who wants to play with me"... around 5 minutes into the tune. It sounds like he wasn't even aware anyone was going to join him. But I trust you guys who witnessed it!! With these 4 guys alive and well, I would to see them go into the studio and put out a recording. It would be pure bliss. There was some arugement that McBride should have been replaced, but who should that bassist be?
  14. Amazing. I couldn't get any so far.

  16. Really? I didn't know that. I guess it is long out of print.

  18. On Wednesday I was at J&R in NYC. I picked up "Road Shows 2." I noticed that there jazz section was smaller that in the past. Is this the end of one of the only outlet where you can go and peruse through the inventory before buying. It really sucks. Everything seems to be MP3 downloads now a days.
  19. Over the summer I caught the Heath Brothers at the Vanguard. I asked Jimmy Heath if he knew if Columbia has any plans to release any of those sessions on CD. He laughed and said something like, "probably after I'm dead. I doubt it very much you'll ever see them on CD." This is somewhat odd that Columbia keeps these in the vaults. These sessions were all big sellers in terms of jazz. I do have two of these on albums and not only is there a good amount of straight ahead jazz, but some crossover tunes that would reach a wider audience. Any thoughts as to why these have never been issued on CD?

  24. I would venture to say everyone here has seen this TV clip of Bird and Diz playing "Hot House." The only musician I didn't get was the pianist. Who was on piano? Al Haig or could it be George Shearing?
