  1. I know Clifford Brown was a very good chess player. I read it in an interview of musicians that played with Clifford. One of the musicians, I don't recall, claimed Clifford could beat anyone at chess. Here is Charles Mingus. Any other jazz musicians that come to mind?.
  2. I'm guess this is from the time of "Our Man In Paris."
  3. The person that posted this photo said it was 1978. It can't be 1978 because Wednesday the 27th of February was not 1978. It is 1977.
  4. Anyone have an idea who would have been in Grant's band in 1978? Just think, in less than a year he would no longer be among the living.
  5. Happy Birthday.
  6. Don’t know. I did ask but haven’t received a reply yet.
  7. I would have loved to have been at this set. Warne Marsh-Harold Land Quintet w/ Gildo Mahones, Bob Maize and Tootie Heath - Hyatt Hotel, Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles - April 12, 1985. Photo by Mark Weber
  8. Sad. He was an original. RIP
  9. I don't recall seeing these before. Maybe some here have. The photos were taken by Jay Persson.

What time frame would you think this photo is from of Barron Charles Mingus?
  16. I've never seen this video before. It's great. I would like to see the entire video. Any idea who is singing "Mood Indigo" at 3 minutes in?
  17. Looks like a missile launcher. I wasn't aware there is a sax with a deeper sound that the baritone sax. Does anyone know what this instrument is called? Yes, that's Dave Holland on bass.
  18. yes. Max Roach- drums Sonny Rollins- tenor sax Jymie Merritt- bass Ronnie Mathews- piano 01. St. Thomas 2:06 02. Announcer 1:46 03. Title 25:19
  19. I have the audio.
  20. The guessing is over. The photo was taken by David Redfer who is from London. From the joint gig by the Max Roach Quintet with Sonny Rollins in Reading, England, and broadcast by the BBC as part of their "Jazz Goes to College Series". Personnel is: Sonny Rollins, tenor sax; Freddie Hubbard, trumpet; Ronnie Mathews, piano; Jymie Merritt, acoustic double bass; Max Roach, drums. Date would be November 6, 1966. Given that Rollins and Roach were leaders of their own groups, and since many musicians traveled to Reading from London to attend the gig, it may have been a one-off.
