  1. Whenever a new Wes recording is found, it is a day to celebrate.
  2. You are correct. You named all four tenors on #1. And yeah, Murray is such a powerhouse.
  3. I have to stop using my iPhone/Siri when posting. It keeps getting what I speak instead of typing it always gets it incorrect, and I don't remember to proof read what it types.
  4. Still no Harold Mabern.
  5. Correction, it isn't Don Braden on #6.
  6. R.I.P.
  7. That same night, Jimmy told Melvin Sparks to play something solo. Jimmy Smith wanted sit out for one. Melvin said, “sure, what do you want me to play?” Jimmy said in an angry voice, “shit, why am I paying you? Just play something!”
  8. Yes, that was probably why. He was in poor health and had to still play to get by. Whomever was on drums did pass by my table at the end of the set and said sorry.
  9. Yes, it is Wayne Shorter. Thanks.
  10. Track 7, both musicians are two of my favorites. No, it isn't James Carter playing baritone on #5.
  11. David Letterman interview's Pee Wee Marquette.
  12. Yes, it is "Broadway." Yes there are 4 tenor players. All are well known.
  13. He was drinking. I'm not one that drinks, but he was drinking something that looked like cranberry juice with one of those little umbrellas.
  14. I have a jimmy Smith quote. I saw Jimmy Smith live in 2002 or 2003 at the Iridium. I was with my wife. We were sitting up at the front of the stage. I was smiling from ear to ear as he played. Jimmy was playing great. After the tune finished he saw me smiling. Jimmy said, “What the fuck you smiling at... I’ll come down there kick your ass. Wipe the smile off you face.” He just kept stared at me. My wife leaned over and said to me, “Is he talking to you?” I told her yes. Still staring, he said, “I’ll kick you bitches' ass too.” No lie. I wish there existed a recording of this.
