  1. I just picked it up this afternoon, so I haven't had a chance to read it. But it looks like a good article. Some nice photos of Blue Note sessions in the article. Anyone read it yet?
  2. I just bought Johnny Griffin's Argo session called "Johnny Griffin". A great album, but it is only 26 minutes long. Has anyone else bought any CD's that were real short?
  3. Here is the cover, plus the URL Hank Photo
  4. Does anyone here have this years BN calendar? Some great shots in it.
  5. I only wish that was ture.
  6. Many most likely just remain in radio stations shelves.
  7. Hands down Horace Silver. From 1952 to the end Horace remained loyal to the label and left. He put out albums every year.
  8. That's too bad if they close.
  9. We were at a Canadian jazz festival, and the Jazz Messengers came on. And they had no tenor player - Hank Mobley had gone. Blakey was playing Monk's tune 'Evidence'. Blakey would say 'We'd like to play a tune by the high priest of bop. He calls it "Evidence", but we call it "Justice".' Lee Morgan saw me from the bandstand, and after the set he came running over and said, 'Hey, Wayne, you want to play with us?' And I said, 'Shit, yeah!'" - Wayne Shorter,
  10. Anyone here have this documentary? Was thinking of buying it, but just wanted to know what others think of it.
  11. Thanks for the info.
  12. Can someone recommend a PC based software to copy music? I have some shows I had recorded back in the 70’s and 80’s on cassettes, which I want to convert to CDR’s. When I copy them down to my hard drive and burn them to CDR’s, the quality diminishes. In some cases, the drums over power all other instruments. But when listening from the source tape, the music sounds just fine. It could be a generation drop off when making copies from audio to digital, but not too sure.
  13. I needed this today. That was so funny.
  14. Dan, I was going to include "Goin' to Chicago", Count Basie with Joe Williams and Lambert Hendricks and Ross. There's some great vocals on that album.
  15. Motown and soul music.
  16. A co worker asked me to make him a CD of jazz music. He never listened to jazz much, and wanted me to try to get him hooked. So far these are what I selected. 1) Moanin' Art Blakey 2) Sidewinder Lee Morgan 3) Song for my Father Horace Silver 4) Bye Bye Blackbird Miles and Coltrane What else should I include?
  17. If you can stick it out four more years, things should get better.
  18. My top place to live was Coral Gables FL. Never been there. Second was Houma, Louisiana.
  19. Fill out some questions and it will tell you the city you should be living in. http://www.findyourspot.com/
  20. I believe he wanted to be close to home. He had, I believe 5 kids.
  21. The two well known artists performing at the festival will be Ramsey and Curtis Stigers. http://www.geneharris.org/home.html
  22. Anyone have the Blue Discography that can tell me the date of the rejected Dexter Gordon Sonny Stitt session?
  23. I try to vary what I listen to. I will just shut off listening for a week and see if this brings it back to me. At where I work, they changed the music playing in the background to sappy top 40 crap. I think this is what has made it hard to enjoy listening to just about anything. I am here already for 2 hours today, and I've heard Toxic by Britney Spears 2 times.
