  1. WTF? How deep a note does this thing get?
  2. Lou Donaldson Quartet will be at Birdland 2/23/05 - 2/25/05. This is the first time I know of him playing Birdland. He usually plays the Vanguard.
  3. Back on the old BNBB I remember a discussion that this session was good enough to be released. I know the master tapes were lost to the ages, but there are other copies of the show that could be used. Are there any plans by Blue Note to release this session?
  4. Where can I get some of these berries?
  5. I'll have to track that one down.
  6. Has this changed for anyone, or are you still visiting as much as before?
  7. As mom always said, "If you have nothing nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all."
  8. Wow, 4 replies so far that think we're a-holes.
  9. I thought that after I wrote it. I said, watch, it will fade like the morning fog.
  10. Don't know what you're talking about.
  11. I sometimes notice threads that never get any responses. Just wondering what the starter of one of these threads thinks when he/she gets no one to reply.
  12. Out of the thousands of photos taken of jazz artists, which one stands out for you as beeing the ultimate? Myself, even though it may not come close for anyone else, it's the photo of Charlie Parker and a very young John Coltrane. I believe it is in the Verve booklet to the complete Charlie Parker on Verve.
  13. What a tragic store her untimely death was. She played jazz guitar with up there with the best of them. In her brief recording career what would you consider her best work? I have two of her sessions, “Catwalk” and “East meets Wes”. The only two sessions available today are “East meets Wes” and “Firefly”.
  14. Another great one has left the building. Deaths usually come in three's. Who'll be the third.
  15. I'm listening now.
  16. Just wonder how the tree died of dehydration. Don't they water the trees? Could this have saved the tree?
  17. I checked tonight when I came from work. I actually have 51 CD's buy Jimmy Smith.
  18. Here's Jimmy less then a month ago receiving an award. This photo released by the National Endowment for the Arts, shows award-winning jazz organist Jimmy Smith accepting his NEA Jazz Master award from 2004 NEA Jazz Master Nancy Wilson, right, at an awards ceremony and concert Jan. 7, 2005, in Long Beach, Calif. Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, of natural causes at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was 79. (AP Photo/National Endowment for the Arts, Vance Jacobs) He looked okay here.
  19. Fuck! I'm ashamed to say I never knew he was living in Phoenix. Typical of the news originizations here not to make one fucking mention of it. If it was Glen Campbell or Alice Cooper there would be emergency news bulletins all day and all night. MSNBC Will you try to attend his services?

  21. Sad to read this story. Oldest tree in Versailles pulled down after 324 years VERSAILLES, France (AFP) - The oldest tree in the grounds of the palace of Versailles -- Marie-Antoinette's oak -- was pulled down more than 320 years after it was planted. Measuring 35 metres (115 feet) high and 5.5 metres (18 feet) in circumference, the tree died of dehydration in the heatwave of 2003 after being deprived of surrounding cover in the devastating storms of December 1999. Planted in 1681, the oak was named after the ill-fated wife of King Louis XVI who reputedly liked to enjoy its shade. It is to replaced by another of the same species. Two tractors took less than two minutes to topple the giant to the ground. "There is a lot of sadness because our job is to manage the trees and look after their health. I can't help thinking of all the generations of gardeners who watched it grow," said head-gardener Alain Baraton.
