Ok, curious if anyone else has ordered and/or heard this one. It just arrived and I will listen this afternoon. Looking forward to it actually. In terms of packaging, I have something in a slightly wider slimline case with no back cover or liner tray. It does come with liner notes booklet. It looks legit -- shrinkwraped and with a gluestrip thing across the top. Just wondering if this is how it comes nowadays and if this is how DG is trying to keep costs a bit lower. Edit: It's actually quite a nice booklet with the complete libretto of Orango in Russian and English and some additional background info.

Pyramid hater! I don't know. Maybe he has a point: Don't think building these monuments did Jackie any good. -
A few more, actually more in the Last Chance pile. Will try to get through all listings and consolidate list shortly. Note that due to the backlog and some work-events, shipping from Seattle is now scheduled for the 28th. Hope that won't be a problem. I can always ship from Vancouver, but price will be higher for US addresses. Thanks for looking. Huh? If, at this point in her career, insuring the future of her family is an issue, she should be finding a good lawyer and suing her management. We're talking about someone who has been able to successfully bridge the chasm between jazz and popular music, who has released nearly a dozen well selling CD's and who plays to sold out houses where ever she goes. I hardly think money is an issue or a driving force behind her decision making. I'll double down on that assertion by virtue of the fact that she's married to Elvis Costello. You might be right. But that would be an assumption. Regardless, I certainly am not going to forego my right to complain about talented artists making commercial crap just because it feeds them and their families. They can do what they want, sure, but saying we can't carp about it? Absurd. You could justify practically everything anyone has ever done on those grounds.

I'm seeing a playlist of 26 movie trailers. hey Jim R. it's an embedded vid from youtube of the trailer for Marty. works ok for me. not sure what's up. if others also have trouble i'll delete. just wanted to share a taste of my favorite Borgnine film... Yeah, not working for me. I get Star Trek reboot, then Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Didn't stick with it long enough to see if Marty was in the queue or not...

For the most part, I am pro-busking. However... In Chicago, during the summer, you get a bunch of kids from the South Side coming up to the Loop and banging on plastic barrels. They are called the Bucket Brigade. They often play fairly well, but play way, way too loudly. Often you can hear them two blocks away. They also keep it up for 2-3 hours at a time, which is again too long and too disruptive for businesses and even office workers in the floors above where they hang out.

Was hoping to wrap up, but am maybe 25% done and I have to run off and do a few other things. More listings tonight. The first batch should be the first time listing here (but I may slip here and there). Second group are previously listed but still available (for a short time only since I want them all gone by end of August). I'll have to figure out shipping on large orders, but there will definitely be some kind of discount. As always, thanks for looking! This is a no-brainer for me. Mingus is in my top favorite 5 jazz artists. I may have a small bit of this already, and probably a bootleg of a different concert from one of the European tours. The timing (and shelf space) may be a bit of an issue, but I'll definitely order it. Am also glad that the lobbying worked.

A few price drops above. Will try to press through with the rest this morning. I've decided to sell my Africa 50 years of Music box set: This is the 18 CD version. After a year, they came out with 2 bonus discs, and it isn't clear whether they will be available separately. As you can imagine, a lot of Stern's customers were fairly peeved. That isn't why I am selling, however. I just don't have shelf space any longer. I think $50 plus shipping is fair. The CDs themselves all appear near mint. There is some water damage to the set, but nothing that should really affect your enjoyment. The larger box has no damage. There is a little bit of damage to the front cover of the book (mostly a bit of crinkling to the lower right edge). The pages aren't stuck together or anything. The water damage is essentially confined to 4 of the paper sleeves that hold the CDs. West Africa 2 and West Africa 3 are just a bit crinkled. North Africa 2 and North Africa 3 are crinkled and were stuck together, so you can see where a bit of the design tore away when they were separated. This is fairly superficial damage (the CDs aren't exposed or anything like that). And indeed, the track listings are still perfectly legible on all 4 sleeves. Obviously, I wish there was no damage, but it's pretty minor all things considered. I can send photos if you are interested in the set, but concerned. Ok, back to the main listings...

I'd like to know the backstory on that one (even if I suspect more than a little tongue-in-cheekiness). Toronto's got a decent jazz radio station and a fine performance scene. Thanks for sharing. My wife will enjoy it. Umm - Photoshop. Not that it isn't funny.

Thanks for the responses. I've been out hiking all day* (no, not the Appalachian Trail), so I will respond to PMs and then list some more CDs tonight. * Went with a group from work up to the Norvan Falls. 14 km trail. Feeling too old for this sort of thing, or at least having to keep up with a younger crowd. Still quite stunning scenery.

Apparently the NYPL Research Library (story here) How incredibly sad and short-sighted. While New York is unquestionably safer than it used to be, much of what made it such a great place has been frittered away... -

The Raiders, really? Maybe not in Oakland, but surely the team will end up somewhere. I recently read that Avon was making serious in-roads in Africa, so maybe they will just change their area of operations. One thing that has basically gone away in the lower 48 is the ability to gather up your leaves and burn them in the backyard in the fall. We had a neighbor that had a steel barrel in his backyard and he would burn most of the leaves for the whole street. I have some fond memories of those days or rather evenings. -
Should wrap up Headhunter this weekend. Am reading a bit of Ishmael Reed's Flight to Canada. It's a lot more polemical and less fun than his earlier works like The Free-lance Pallbearers. I suspect I'll make it through the book but it's feeling like quite a slog. Also started These Festive Nights (Soifs) by Marie-Claire Blais. Too early to say how I'll like it. Have a couple shorter books to read after that. I am back to trying to clear out some books from my house, after a year-long diversion to reading primarily Canadian fiction.

I don't think there ever was a booklet with it. I've made up my own discography for it if anyone wants one. Perhaps not, though there is a bit of extra space in the box that looks like it might have held a booklet.

That quote has already been proven wrong countless times over. Past Performance Does Not Guarantee Future Results In any case, I think it is quite a stretch to claim that even today the US is the greatest country in the world. -

Some newspaper reporter (remember them?) did a quick bit of research and found that in many (most) parts of the city and suburbs, the people dropping off the phone books didn't have a no-drop off list on them and scoffed at the idea they would bother to consult one. So I suspect you'll still end up with the phone books for the near term at least. -

I don't understand this. All the analysts are like, whoa, Lakers are relevant again*, and I'm like, really? How much does Nash really have left in the tank? And how effective can he be when every single play will be Nash bringing the ball up and passing to Kobe? I mean defenses are going to adjust... * Again, just pointing out how herdlike most NBA analysts are.

That's funny, because the book I said had some of those pictures in, actually hasn't! I can't see them in any book I have here so I'm flummoxed As long as you're not Fluxus-ed... -

I took another look at the catalogue and they do have 4 of the 20 or so photos after all. Don't know how that compares with the other book, but it is definitely moving me in the direction of buying this new catalogue. I still think that given the Cone sisters had 500 or so Matisse paintings and drawings they could have been a bit more generous in the reproductions, even if some of the art then wasn't part of the traveling exhibit, but so be it.
