FaceBook along with MySpace and Twitter are a pretend sanctuary for their users. In my business, it would be absolute death to post on any of these sites. The place is a free-for-all.

All glove, no bat. I don't know if I'd agree with that. In his five most recent years with the Giants he hit .290 with 51 home runs, 262 RBI's and 73 stolen bases. I'd say mostly glove, some bat. That would be the average, Dave. Take a look at his year by year stats. Last year he could barely hit his hat size. He was Mr. Rally Killer. .262 is nothing to shout about. Only two years above .300 with the Giants. Sure he got on base on occasion, but produced few runs; 65 last year with 51 RBIs in only 149 games. And he's 35. Good luck with that. He'll probably be batting 9th, so I think we can live with it. I'd rather have Damon, but given all of the offense that NY already has, acquiring Winn is not an utter disaster or anything. Just wait until Winn comes up with men in scoring position. We'll talk.

Leno / O'Brien / Kimmel / Letterman

Oh I disagree, Chris. Steve Allen's dry wit was priceless. That and he was something of a Jazz musician as well. Johnny Carson was fantastically funny and a total class act. Intelligent humor and camp all rolled in to one show. It was awesome stuff! -

Kevin, Have you looked into Honda? Mrs. GoodSpeak's 95 Accord still runs like a champ....with 260,000 miles on the odometer, no less. A slightly used Toyota can't be bad either if you're concerned about the sticking gas pedal thing. I own an 81 Toyota truck and it gets as good gas mileage as most new cars do. FWIW -

Tonight? BBQ'd Tri-tip marinated in Teriyaki Sauce and finished off with a Teriyaki Glaze. Stir fry vegies [baby carrots, sugar snap peas, bean sprouts and sliced mushrooms sauteed in EV olive oil and soy sauce] and Rice Pilaf. Ice cold Newcastle Brown Ale. Be jealous

Yum. Got a recipe to share?

Does your dog wrap him/herself up in his/her blanket?

Does your dog wrap him/herself up in his/her blanket? No.....but my cats do. Seriously. They are burrowing cats. Actually, my parents owned a Chihuahua that rolled up under her blanket anytime it got cold. -

Leno / O'Brien / Kimmel / Letterman

It was a very nice speech. I wish Conan O'Brien well in his future. But I'm willing to bet the ranch that he has $45 million reasons not to be too awfully broken up over this. OTOH, I cannot help but wonder if we are placing too much blame on Jay Leno for all of this. NBC executives caused all of this to happen. In fact, Leno's staffers have come out in the papers saying Leno is not the culprit here and intimated that NBC is allowing Leno to appear to be the bad guy so they can absolve themselves of the whole nasty business. Leno was just trying to be a team player. I guess the old adage is true: No good deed goes unpunished. Further, Letterman has some serious anger issues, but he's blaming the wrong guy. Add to that the fact he keeps teeing off on Leno is testament to why he isn't the Tonight Show host. NBC made the right call on that one at least. Letterman is funny, but I have lost a lot of respect for him over these past few months. Kimmel is funny, too. But unless he mellows out some, I don't see the Tonight Show in his future either. On the whole, I am very happy for Jay Leno,he deserves his rightful spot back. But since the yutzes at NBC took the wind out of his sails, it will be a while before he gets things back on the right track, IMHO. -

Right behind you, Paul. Food Channel/History/Sports/News/Weather/Bio/Music [concerts] faire is all I ever watch anymore. The rest is just manipulative bullshit. -

Does Any US Auto-Maker Have A Good Commuter Car? No. They can't make an anything good car. American made cars just plain suck. -

Jon Stewart is an absolute scream! Nobody funnier right now, IMHO. I agree, "Headlines" was the best part of Leno's Tonight Show. The interviews were either a snooze-fest or painful. Oh c'mon. It isn't that bad. -

"Young" is the demographic the advertisers want. Not "old". "Young" are the ones more influenced by the commercials than "old". Leno going back to do the Tonight Show isn't going to bring in the younger viewers - they'll watch Letterman and O'Brien, wherever he ends up. And that's fine, too. When they get to be "old folks" too, I imagine they will tire of the Conan schtick. -

So....does Leno have to be just like Conan or can we allow for a variety of comedic styles? Maybe you don't like Leno. Now how about that? I dunno. Maybe you lack a sense of humor. Seems to me that we are comparing apples to oranges in order to justify Conan's comedy against Leno. -

Old folks...? What...over age 25? I don't think most 25 year olds care for Leno's style of humor at all. In all honesty I think he appeals mostly to people 50+. I see. Conan has a Carl's Jr. commercial appeal. Edgy, in-your-face humor. King of the Hill/20-something humor. So we blithly cast aside anyone over 25 and expect a success story? Tell me, is "young" the only demographic in this country who spends money? Or, more to the point, has enough money to spend? Or, even more to the point, gives the money to the young ones to spend? Yeah, you're right. The Boomers don't matter anymore, huh. Hm. Time to reassess. -

Oh c'mon. Johnny Carson was no brain trust either. He was an entertainer. He interviewed his guests on the lighter side, too. He got laughs and had some fun....with animals, as well. Tonight Show devotees loved it and it worked. People at that time of the night aren't interested in deep, intellectual discussions. Laughter, unobstrusive laughter, sells to the Tonight Show class of people. Maybe Conan will find his niche on Fox. -
I'm OK with that The bad news is Lincecum is holding out for crazy money: $13.5 million bucks. Who does he think he is, a two time Cy Young winner or something? Sheesh.

NBC just plain blew it. Jay Leno should still be the Tonight Show host. And though reasonably funny, Conan O'Brien simply does not have the class to do the Tonight Show like it needs to be done. Low key and astute he is not. -
I'm envious, Ed. One day, I hope to go over. Hm. Can Pat and Mike jokes be far behind...? A rather unfortunate comment, Chuck. You are aware, I hope, of the Irish Potato Famine of 1845-1852. Not cool.
