  1. Gibson never faced Reggie Jackson. Personally, I think Reggie would have gone yard on him....easily. Not suprising....he had an absolute stellar year on the mound. He deserves it. He had a GOOD year, but still nowhere near the 1.53 ERA Doc posted in 1985. Now, that was some serious quality pitching! And he was only 21. All this talk about Halladay, Lincecum, CC, Santana makes me laugh. None of them even compares to Seaver, Gibson, Carlton, et. al. Good point. However, I would argue the batters are that much better than they were back in the day. A pitcher has to be much more of a craftsman with his pitches these days. The days of just having one or two pitches [fastball/curve] have been replaced by pitches [sinkers, sliders, spilters, slurves, off speed stuff, etc] that rely on much more movement and placement. No doubt guys like Seaver, Gibson, Carlton, Drysdale, Koufax, Juan Marichal, etc would have been an anchor for any of today's pitching staffs, but they would have a hard time with guys who are a tough out. A straight-up hard thrower gets lit up a lot more often now. Just my two cents... Oh, really? Really.

  4. Right now, it's all about Buster Posey: 2010 Rookie of the Year! Rookie of the Year Sour grapes, Philly.
  5. Happy belateds from me as well!
  6. The Fresno Grizzlies are my local Triple-A team.
  7. Not a big fan of the game....? How is that even possible?
  8. I'm jealous
  9. Letting Mannywood go didn't help the cause. Without him, they don't have the power at the plate they need. Pitching is so-so. The messy McCourt divorce will prove to be the Dodgers steady demise.
  10. Jon Miller is very good, but I'll take Duaine Kuiper and Mike Krukow any day. As to the Hot Stove: Giants are going after Aubrey Huff in a big way as well as Juan Uribe [though I'm not really sure why; the Designated Out]. I figued Renteria was out [34 and oft injured; and how he got the WS MVP is beyond me. Captain Doulble Play...really?]; bullpen pitchers Ramirez, Ray [maybe] and Mota will probably go. Rowand [though I love the guy] is unlikely I figure; Burrell, well...I really don't think he'll be back [maybe a Fresno contract w/Rowand?]; Fontenot, maybe as a bench guy/PH; Sandoval could be trade bait as well as Jonathan Sanchez. Now, if the Giants could only dump Zito...any takers?
  11. And don't forget them tractor pulls Thanks, BeBop. Only you would know. I'm on it!
  12. All the best!
  13. Happiest of happys, Paul!
  14. This should surprise no one. PayPal is a toilet. E-Bay is the slimeball Meg Whittman's playground. Trust this site at your own peril.
  15. I want all of you to know that I am feeling a real part of the Organisimo Family right here. Thanks, Guys...I really do appreciate it.
  16. Thanks to everybody for the birthday wishes! My GIANT(s) present came early this year!
  17. Aw, c'mon Noj. It can't be all that bad. Cheer up! I mean, the McCourt's messy divorce settlement ought to leave a few good players to root for next season, er...um. Never mind
  18. I loved the guy's style....sad to see him go. RIP Sparky.
  19. Jim, I saw my first game [a shut-out] at the 'Stick in 1966; Gaylord Perry vs. Don Drysdale. Giants won by a score of 1-0. I have been fortunate enough to see many of the Giants greatest players over the past 40+ years: Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, all the Alou Brothers [Felipe, Jesus and Matty], Jim Davenport, Kevin Mitchell, Bob Brenly, Will Clark, Rod Beck, Matt Williams, Kirk Rueter, Jeff Kent, Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonds, Benito Santiago, JT Snow, Mike Matheny, Jason Schmidt...I could go on! Man, that some was cold wind blowing in from Hunter's Point. Remember those big green doors below the upper deck which just flapped when the wind blew? Back in those days you could bring your own cooler full of beer and soda. Sit in the shade [even after they enclosed the stadium] and you needed a down parka; sit in the sun and you fried. I remember in the early 80s when the Giants couldn't even buy a win, you could get a cheap ticket in the nose bleed section and after an inning or two walk down to the boxes and watch the game. Fun times
  20. Thanks for all the congratulatory words, Guys. Been a long time comin'. Let me also congratulate the Texas Rangers for an AL pennant and their first trip to the WS/playoffs in the team's history. Well played, Gents! The good news is Benji Molina gets a much deserved WS ring anyway. Tell you what...I won't say a word for at least five months, OK?
  21. Oh YEAH!!!
  22. Me either. Bud Selig is an idiot. Pretty amazing performance tonight. Just think, the Giants have Posey, Lincecum, Cain, and Baumgartner, all about the same age on this team. It could be a very special Giants club for years to come. Pretty incredible and downright scary for the rest of the NL. Now if their owners will spend the money to keep them all and surround them w/ some better hitting.... If the owners are OK with making Zito the highest priced cheerleader in MLB history, I think they will pop for the money, IMHO.
  23. The MadBum Strikes!
  24. I'm sure about 29 teams will gladly take him off your hands. It's two bad starts though, not 3. 10-10, 7 and a third innings, 1 run against the Braves. 10-17, 6 innnings, 2 earned runs against the Phils. Statistics don't tell the whole story, Berigan. He was hanging more stuff than a clerk at a dry cleaner. And Jeremy Affeldt had to bail his ass out in that Phillies game. Remember the ball throwing incident? Get inside his head and he's done.
