EPM (F) FCD 5008. - *also on: Oscar Pettiford: Bass Hits. Topaz 1071. - The Man I Love also on: Ken Burns Jazz: Coleman Hawkins. Verve 549 085-2. I have never seen a copy of the EPM cd. However, these sessions are collectively available on "The Big Three" and "Coleman Hawkins/Lester Young - Classic Tenors" both issued by CBS Special Products. The 12/23 session is on "Classic Tenors" and it is an excellent session, including "The Man I Love" with OP's famous bass solo, punctuated by his breathing. They sound pretty good to me. They would also be available on the Classics series, but I have not heard those so I cannot comment on their sound. -
Try Mediacoder which is a freeware file converter. I haven't used it for the specific conversion that you need, but generally it seems to work pretty well.

Thanks to the advice offered here, I called Concord yesterday about my order dated 7/20 which included the Evans box. A fellow named Jackson checked it out for me, called back last night to tell me that my order would be processed today but that the Evans might not be available. He called again today to let me know that I would receive one of the last of the Evans boxes and that it would ship today. I didn't ask but it was my impression that the orders were not processed first in first out. He seemed a bit surprised that my order was as old as it was. OTOH my first order for the Coltrane box shipped only a few days after it was placed, but that was early in the game.

Bertrand, I ordered the Trane box + 3 individual cds and shipping was $7.00 via FedEx to PA.

Wow - the Coltrane Complete Prestige box on sale for $69.98! I wonder if the sale list indicates titles that are going out of catalog?
-
Ah - a red tabby. The classic Alpha cat.

wow, so who has the rights to this material Ind or Verve ? Since they are the same source as the 2-cd Konitz/Marsh set, I would speculate that Verve owns the rights. More's the pity.
-
there are 4 cdrs worth of Konitz/Marsh Half Note material circulating among collectors that are in addition to the Verve 2-cd issue. This material was recorded by Peter Ind for Verve, and is the source of the Marsh solos which were edited by Lennie Tristano and were issued on the "Art of Improvising" lps. Details can be found at Here

It hasn't arrived yet. In truth, I bought it because Phineas Newborn Jr is on some of the tracks, and there is a nice west coast contingent with such notables as Art Pepper, Jack Sheldon, and Frank Rosolino. I'll try to remember to report back when the disc arrives.

I was looking for the Helyne Steward "Love Moods" cd on Amazon today and noted that it was only available as a used title. I pulled out one of my old Fantasy catalogs and did a random search of some of the OJC limited titles. Some are not available new at the moment, others are. Not available, for instance, is Roy Draper Tuba Sounds, Victor Feldman Suite Sixteen, John Dennis New Piano Expressions, Teddy Charles New Directions. Some of the vultures have already upped their used prices to the $30-40 range. Other Ltds are still available new - Walt Dickerson, Joe Albany. I wonder if this is a trend? Any comments? Should we all crank up our "must have" lists and start chasing them?

Not imo. I love Zoot, but not this one. It's spoken for, anyway.

Thank you all. It's been low-keyed and very nice. After work I had a nice paddle on the Conestoga Creek and then my daughter took me to dinner. I feel quite contented. Pete

Dan Brown's publishing miracle, "The Da Vinci Code"
Pete B replied to jazzbo's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I read the book and thought it was ill-written, even by today's rather low standards for pop literature. A.O. Scott, the movie reviewer for the NY Time, called the book "best-selling primer on how not to write an English sentence". I like that. He proceeded to savage the film. -

I despair of ever finding a copy of this, the only Phineas title I lack. Would anybody have a copy they want to part with? Or, a cdr would do. I have plenty to offer in trade including unpublished Phineas. Please send me a pm. Thanks Pete
