Remember that I didn't like it either. I should give a listen to it, just for remember WHY.
  3. I think that the one to go for.
  4. - BOOKER LITTLE (F. BOOKER ERVIN): NEW YORK SESSIONS (LONEHILLJAZZ) - URS LEIMGRUBER: STATEMENT OF AN ANTIRIDER (hat ART) - MORTON FELDMAN: FOR JOHN CAGE (PAUL ZUKOFSKY & MARIANNE SCHROEDER) (CP2)
  5. - JOHN COLTRANE: FIRST MEDITATION (IMPULSE!) - CHET BAKER (F. WARNE MARSH): BLUES FOR A REASON (CRISS CROSS)
  6. I post in and check rarely this thread. But I've had an interesting week until now: On last Tuesday I saw in Gent (Gand), Belgium: THE DAVE BURRELL TRIO (MICHAEL FORMANEK/ GREGORIO E. BROWN) Followed the same night in the same town by THE KRIS WANDERS UNIT (KRIS WANDERS, TS, JOHANNES BAUER, TB, PETER JACQUEMYN, B, MARK SANDERS, PERC). KRIS WANDERS is a Dutch tenor sax who have play and (sometimes) recorded with GLOBE UNITY, FRED VAN HOVE, PETER BRÖTZMAN before moving suddenly to AUSTRALIA (MELBOURNE) where he has vanished in the shadow. People (and part of his family) believe that he was dead. Then suddenly he pops up few weeks ago, contact some people and put this incredible band together to tour EUROPE the two last weeks! I was more than glad to catch this great concert. The guy looks like PETER BRÖTZMANN and PLAYS at the same level! The concert was incredible. I was back at the beginning of the seventies but without an once of nostalgia as the music wasn't particularly living in the past: MODERN FREE JAZZ/ EUROPEAN IMPRO for the new generation! The band should record on Monday or Tuesday in a studio in BRUSSELS. I will be there. Last night in LILLE (FRANCE) in a place called LA MALTERIE (a desaffected place where they was long time ago making beer) I've seen the NEW YORK DOWN TOWN ALL STAR QUINTET featuring HERB ROBERTSON, TIM BERNE, SYLVIE COURVOISIER, MARK DRESSER, TOM RAINEY for another stuning concert! And tomorrow there's some more LIVE music to come.

  8. Never like the music either, first of all because it tries to emulate "classical music". In the sixties, it was the kind of record that you would find in the collection of people who didn't like jazz. But aniway a "jazz ballet" of some sort.
  9. "LA NUIT EST UNE SORCIERE" ("THE NIGHT IS A WITCH") de SIDNEY BECHET. ROLAND PETIT (sp?) was the choregrapher, I think. Maybe Brownie can say more about it.
  10. Just the contrary, here, FLURIN. But AT THE IT CLUB was the one I got first (!) So...

    Aladar Pege, RIP

A great bass player that I've seen once with the MINGUS DYNASTIE. He was great behind WALTER NORRIS WINTER ROSE (and, for few tracks on NORRIS DRIFTING). RIP ALADAR.
  12. - HAKON KORNSTAD TRIO (MATS EILERTSEN/ PAAL NILSSEN-LOVE) WITH AXEL DÖRNER: LIVE FROM KONGSBERG (JAZZLAND ACOUSTIC) (DISC ONE)
  13. I just listed what came out in the seventies, not records from this period publish in the eighties, nineties or even closer to today: - PAUL BLEY: OPEN, TO LOVE (ECM) - DEREK BAILEY & EVAN PARKER: THE LONDON CONCERT (INCUS) - ANTHONY BRAXTON: THE MONTREUX/ BERLIN CONCERTS (ARISTA) - ORNETTE COLEMAN: SCIENCE FICTION (COLUMBIA) - MILES DAVIS: LIVE/ EVIL (COLUMBIA) - WALT DICKERSON: TO MY SON (STEEPLECHASE) - STEVE LACY: POINTS (LE CHANT DU MONDE) - GEORGE LEWIS: HOMMAGE TO CHARLES PARKER (BLACK SAINT) - FRANK LOWE: THE FLAM (BLACK SAINT) - EVAN PARKER: AT THE UNITY THEATER (INCUS) - SAM RIVERS: STREAMS (AT THE MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL) (IMPULSE) - CECIL TAYLOR: ONE TOO MANY SALTY SWIFT AND NOT GOODBYE (hatOLOGY)
  14. A curiosity who said a lot on his talent: he has worked on the two best versions of THE MERRY WIDOW. The silent one from genius ERICH VON STROHEIM and the talking one from another genius ERNST LUBITSCH.
  15. BYRON ALLEN: INTERFACE (ACC PRODUCTIONS) recorded in 1979 (in mono!!) by ALLEN and two teens (they are 27 years older, now!) that I've never hear about since, ROBBIE BITANGA (GUITAR) & TIM JORDAN (DRUMS). The LP is subtitle: "A COMMON BOUNDARY BETWEEN MATTER AND SPACE" and the music is very beautifull and very quiet, close to the SONNY SIMMONS ANCIENT RITUAL.

    Rashied Ali

I second this recommandation. One of the finest RA. Not on the same level but the RASHIED ALI - LOUIE BELOGENIS RINGS OF SATURN on KNITTING was an excellent duo album from both men (recorded in 1997).

    Sonny Rollins

Fifties: - SAXOPHONE COLOSSUS - FREEDOM SUITE - WAY OUT WEST - A NIGHT AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD - NEWK'S TIME Sixties: - SONNY MEETS HAWKS + What is now the BONUS TRACKS of THE STANDARD SONNY ROLLINS (meaning the long version of NOW'S THE TIME, FIFTY SECOND STREET THEME, TRAV'LIN' LIGHT, etc.) For the other decades, I'm afraid I just don't know.

    Air re-issues

Your have one of the better titles. Not one, THE best title (IMO)
  19. Well, seems that you start the game yourself. Had a bad day today?
  20. Point taken. You can also add Heartplants, Tusques' Free Jazz, Gunnar Lindquist's GL Unit, The Pierre Favre Quartett (Wergo), Schoof's Voices and anything else recorded 1966-1971, but whatever. What's the problem, here?
  21. Can't help you, UBU. I've only one DENIS COLIN CD, his first in straigth solo. All of his others records has always disappoint me, but this first one is a gem: DENIS COLIN: CLARINETTE BASSE SEUL (IN SITU) Recorded in JULY 1990. One of the very few highlight of the instrument in SOLO. If you want a counter exemple of the COLIN, try RUDI MAHALL in the same exercice (SOLO) on PSI : It's a total failure
  22. He is suffering from a lung cancer from years now. His concert in July, for the Belgium BLUE NOTE FESTIVAL was cancelled for "illness". NOAH ROSEN, a former student of him, have seen him in December last year and had confrm that the hillness had taken a bad turn.
  23. From WIKPEDIA: "Former player SANDRO MAZZOLA'S brother FERRUCIO has accused him (HERRERA) of using forbidden drugs to enhance the performance of his players while coaching INTER, what might have led to the premature death of some of his former players, among them ARMANDO PICCHI and MARCELLO GIUSTI." So, FACCHETTI is now the third from the sixties team to have encountered a premature death. But FERRUCIO has also accused HERRERA to have experiment his "cocktails" on the substitude like him. Seems that FERRUCIO is himself sick today. The answer of brother SANDRO to FERRUCIO'S accusation was (from memory)."Shut up. The dirty loundry must be wash only in the family" or something like that. A great and interesting answer, indeed.
  24. Please, somebody could call for an ambulance? The guy has no ARGUMENT OF ANY SORT, here, and it seems the situation is driving him mad. Poor fellow.
