  1. Hope it's a happy one, wherever you're at.
  2. There still is no obituary, but my friend who passed the news to me just told me that Ed passed on June 20th.
  3. 18 Classic Blues Songs from the 1920's Vol. 7 (Blues Images)
  4. Forgot to mention that one. Ed told a story that Francis (Ed called him Frank) Wolff wanted Kenny Burrell to play on the date, but Hank Mobley insisted on using Ed on guitar. He called Hank "a true friend" for doing that.
  5. Don Friedman Trio: Circle Waltz
  6. I don't think that there was any obituary - I couldn't find one, anyway. I just heard the news from a friend of his.

  8. Ran Blake: Unmarked Van (A Tribute to Sarah Vaughan) (Soul Note)
  9. A mutual friend informed me today that guitarist Eddie Diehl had passed away recently. Over the years, Ed recorded with Jack McDuff (he was the guitarist in McDuff's group in between Grant Green's stint and George Benson's), Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Al Haig, George Braith, Johnny "Hammond" Smith, Roswell Rudd, and probably others I don't know about. In addition, he also played gigs and jammed with countless musicians. In his later years, he moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and, in addition to playing occasional gigs, was a respected luthier. (To add a personal note, he played at my 60th birthday celebration.) Ed was a very fine jazz guitarist and never received the recognition he deserved. He will be missed.

  20. Pretty nice. I wondered how many members of the classic lineup were still around in 1995. Seems as if it was only Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin - the latter for part of the album - he was ill and passed before the album was released.
