  1. Not to hijack this thread, but a former customer at the post office where I worked told me the story that after WW 2, he was attending LSU and Joe Adcock was his roommate for a year. He said that Joe Adcock was a very nice guy. The customer wasn't the type to b.s., so I believed him. An eye opener on Joe Adcock in Wikipedia: "Born in Coushatta, the seat of Red River Parish in northwestern Louisiana, Adcock attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he played on the baseball team; before college, he had never played a game of baseball in his life." Now, back to: Joe Adcock Mad Men Little Women
  2. I wasn't going to go for the strings set. Eventually, I did and found that I liked some of the unissued material better than some of the issued stuff. So I'll probably go for this too.
  3. Always wondered how that Monk/Trane LP sounded with such long timings.

  8. Jeff has the music, and has the ears to tell what's what. Jepsen credits George Russell (also credited as playing Tambourines) and George Williams as the arrangers. I'm not familiar with much of Mr. Williams' work but, from what I read, he probably was a more conventional arranger than George Russell. Edit - no mention of the soprano vocalist in Jepsen.

  10. Here's an old thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/1379-happy-birthday-jim-alfredson/#comment-17619 Looks like today's the day, so - Happy Birthday, Jim!

  13. I believe that Other Aspects is the only DMM I've kept. An overlooked Dolphy record and a very good one.

  15. I hate Sanborn's sound. If I imagine computerized saxophone, his playing is it.
  16. Had the same experience listening to the Ornette! album - 52 years ago now.
  17. How 'bout the ghost(s) of Miles? They should be worth a few bucks.

  19. I'm with TtK. Not enough time left in this life to waste it listening to David Sanborn. No matter who might have hired him.
  20. Schaap can't win for losing. Perhaps the additional Bird tapes came to light after the "Complete" set was issued. I don't know about that. But there were people who complained when everything was included in the Mosaic Benedetti box and said it should have been edited. Now, it seems that the false starts, etc. should have been included in the Verve box (assuming they were available back then).

Guess you were hearing things that weren't happening.

How did you get to that? I don't recall anything like that being said here.
