In an article on Aretha Franklin in the current New Yorker - http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/04/04/aretha-franklins-american-soul - the author, David Remnick, writes: "Franklin ... is generally acknowledged to be the greatest singer in the history of popular postwar music." Mr. Remnick obviously has the right to his opinion, but I don't buy into it for even a second. Any discussion here?

My favorite Barbieri recordings are the ones he made with Don Cherry. After that, he went his way and I went mine.

I saw her over the years in various roles, smaller and larger, and tended to be surprised at her competency as an actress. I shouldn't have been. You have to be good to have that long a career.
