  1. Sounds like an interesting book. I'll have to look around for it.
  2. Thanks to all for the good thoughts and well wishes. And Jeff, you can catch up and pass me when I'm gone. Hope that won't be for a while. Thanks for the music John. Made my morning. My wife and I were at the hospital yesterday with a good friend of hers who was having a test done. We'll be celebrating my birthday today - going to lunch first and then going next door to the restaurant to a good friend's book store where I'll either pick out or order a book.
  3. To digress - they were a sort of minor league Everly Brothers, had one big hit and disappeared from the music scene. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalin_Twins Now - We take you back to Name Three People.
  4. He had it delivered high and inside. I just got out of the way.

  7. "Lover Man" on Matthew Gee's Jazz By Gee (Riverside/OJC) with a great Wilbur Ware solo and some impassioned playing by the leader.

  9. Merle Haggard: A Tribute to the Best Damn Fiddle Player in the World (or My Salute to Bob Wills) (Capitol) This was my introduction to Merle Haggard over 40 years ago and it opened a door to Bob Wills' music.

  15. Theresa Heinz John Kerry Johnny Cash
  16. Stiller and Meara Wellington Mara The Duke of Ellington
  17. Pee Wee Russell: The Pied Piper of Jazz (Commodore Germany) The quartet sides contain some cool Pee Wee. The trio sides have too much Zutty.
  18. Sonny Rollins Plays &Thad Jones and His Ensemble (Period/Fresh Sounds)
  19. John Jackson: Deep in the Bottom (Rounder) With my good friend Bill Morrison playing acoustic bass on most cuts.
  20. Darryl Strawberry My brother Darryl My other brother Darryl
  21. Like others. I have Quebec, Quinichette, Quattlebaum, & Quartet Out. Also came across: Quartet + 1 - Bob Ackerman, Pam Purvis, Wilber Morris, Denis Charles, Herb Robertson (Cadence Jazz Records) and Henry Qualls: Blues from Elmo, Texas (Dallas Blues Society) Probably the only blues record in existence with a cover of the Newbeats' "Bread and Butter" on it.
  22. James Gurley The Violent Femmes Lady Madonna
  23. If Mr. Van Gelder hadn't done the original recordings, most of the "remaster/reissue gurus" wouldn't have much to remaster and their disciples wouldn't have much to listen to, given that both seem to be addicted to Blue Note recordings.
  24. Albert Dailey Trio: That Old Feeling (Steeplechase)
