  1. Interesting to compare Bud Freeman's playing in the mid-1930s with his playing in 1960. I enjoy both.
  2. I used to have this filed under M, since Misha Mengelberg's name is listed first and he did the arrangements. Listening this time, it sounded so much like a cooperative effort with Herbie Nichols' compositions to the fore, that I'm filing it after Mr. Nichols' own recordings. (Not that any of this means anything to anyone other than myself. )
  3. I don't keep up with that world, so I thought all of them were merely candidates. That makes it an even scarier, screwed up world than I imagined.
  4. Growling Tiger: Knockdown Calypsos (Rounder)
  5. At least a couple of those losers will have to be elected. If not, they don't have an event this year.
  6. Four Ways (Nessa)
  7. If a player is good, endorsements, etc. that come from playing in N.Y. or L.A. probably make up for the increased tax rates.
  8. Whole Lotta Drinkin' on the Block (Goldband/Folk-Star/Charly)
  9. Don Joseph: One of a Kind (Uptown) A quiet gem
  10. A popular one on the forums these days - and with good reason.
  11. Pres: Jammin' with Lester (Jazz Archives)
