  1. There was a lot of music in the air in those days - a whole different deal from today - and influences were probably picked up unconsciously.
  2. Hard Time Blues - St Louis 1933 - 1940 (Mamlish)
  3. Years after the first two Vanguard LPs (and later CDs) were issued, Vanguard released a third volume of Skip James recordings, Rare and Unreleased. It's worth getting if you're a Skip James fan. And an even more important release (at least imo) is Skip's Piano Blues on Genes - twelve tracks of Skip James playing piano and singing.
  4. Why is there an Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame ????
  5. Cheri Oteri Eale Eye Cherry Glenn Frey
  6. Ornette Coleman: Crisis (Impulse)
  7. When Sid Caesar was a big name on TV, I was too young to appreciate what was going on. A lot of his humor was verbal, as opposed to someone like Ernie Kovacs, much of whose humor was visual, and whom I could pick up on back then. Years later, when I saw clips from his old shows, I came to love Sid Caesar's humor. Thanks, Mr. Caesar.
  8. I don't take all what Moms says as gospel, but I do think about what he has to say.

  17. The Popular Duke Ellington (RCA Germany) Couldn't find an image for the cover on my copy, so this will have to do.
  18. I wouldn't trade the 1954 Verve version of "It Never Entered My Mind" for any other Bud recording - Any Other.

  22. Too bad the booklet isn't the complete one. The running commentary on the tracks by Barry Harris and Michael Weiss makes a fascinating complement to the music. You have the music and that's the most imporatnt thing. You can do your own commentary in your head as the music plays.
  23. Mumbles The Whispers Moses "Whispering" Smith
  24. Rev. Robert Wilkins: Memphis Gospel Singer (Piedmont)
