Thanks for posting that. A bittersweet aricle.

  3. I saw the New York premiere of Mountain Language as the opener to a bill that had The Birthday Party with Jean Stapleton. She was perfect! When I was in college I saw a performance of The Birthday Party with a very fine young actress playing the role of Meg. I can imagine that Jean Stapleton would have been great playing that part.
  4. Joseph Conrad Patrick McGoohan Johnny Rivers
  5. John Cameron Swayze Sammy Kaye Bobby Vee
  6. Happy Birthday, Dan! And congrats on being able to keep your distance from the Sox this season. Seems like you're in a better place these days. Would that I'd been able to do the same with the Yanks.
  7. Lester Bowie Beaver Cleaver Hacksaw Harney
  8. Lightnin' Hopkins Strums the Blues (Score/Pathe Marconi) My copy is a Pathe Marconi reissue LP, but it sounds better in many ways than the EMI CD release, so I'm hanging on to it.
  9. Spanky and Our Gang The Mamas and the Papas The Rolling Stones
  10. The Rivingtons James Brown The Temptations
  11. Haven't heard him recently but, when I've heard him in the past, he sounded as if he played like a banker and I've never had much of an interest in his playing. He seems to have his fans. Good for him and for them.
  12. Ross Perot Ross Macdonald Lew Archer
  13. Buena Vista Social Club (World Circuit/Nonesuch/Classic Records) - 2 LPs Just noticed after all these years that Ry Cooder gets top billing on the cover. WTF is up with that? Here's a record with all kinds of gifted, original musicians and a mimic gets his name out front.
  14. Randy Moss Randy Johnson Randy Quaid
  15. The Johnson Mountain Boys: Working Close (Rounder)
  16. In other words, it's grated, but not grating. People have been complaining about the sound of Dylan's voice for 50 years.

  18. Guess it didn't take you long to get your hi-fi equipment set up and the LPs unpacked. Then again, some things are priorities.
  19. Pretty big statement to make. Depends on whose memories you're talking about, David. Also whose lives and feelings you're talking about, and exactly how those lives and feelings have been spoken to. Speaking for myself, pop in general has created a higher percentage of crap than jazz has, and much of the crap in the jazz world has come when jazz has tried to enter the pop world at the expense of the music. All of this is a matter of opinion. You have yours and I have mine. I just wanted to weigh in and say that the statement you've made is a big one and open to a lot of discussion. More than I want to take on in detail.
  20. Mike Rowe The Crew-Cuts The Chords
  21. Duke Ellington Orchestra: The Duke 1940 - Live from the Crystall Ballroom in Fargo, N.D. (Jazz Society) Never heard the Storyville CD release, but this sounds very good to me.
  22. Pete Sheehy Gene Monahan Bob Sheppard
  23. I'll hang on to my teeth for as long as I can, but I wouldn't mind hearing the Emarcy album made by Art Hodes and Truck Parham.
  24. Cassette = French (k sept)
