  5. Why do you feel that way about Ryan? Just my personal take. He comes across to me as an arrogant SOB. Plus I've always considered him overrated as a pitcher. I know - strikeouts & no-hitters. He just couldn't win many more than he lost. Yeah, he played on some bad to mediocre teams, but tell that to Walter Johnson and Fergy Jenkins. If I were a Texan, I might feel differently. I'm willing to bet money you never saw him play. You'd lose that bet.

  9. clear channel is privately held. there are no stock holders to screw. the limbaughs of the world play a big role in this sad scenario. clear channel, the cess pool(to put it kindly), of broadcasting has again cut many jobs from its already skeletal ranks. we wish our old familiar broadcast friends and voices nothing but the best. If you are correct, perhaps Dan will apologize - unless he follows the John Wayne philosophy from Tie a Yellow Ribbon: "Never apologize ...it's a sign of weakness."
  10. Didn't have a horse in the race this year. I'm normally an American League fan, but seeing that dirtbag Nolan Ryan's mug made it hard for me to root for the Rangers. Of course, seeing that dirtbag LaRussa made it just as hard for me to root for the Cardinals. In the end, I let it all go. Condolences to the Rangers' fans here. You guys gave them all the rooting karma you could.

  14. As far as an r&b element in free jazz, there was also Archie Shepp's "Mama Too Tight". recorded in 1966. I hear r&b - though less obviously - in some of Albert Ayler's early recordings.

  16. I could play Albert Ayler's "Spirits" from the original ESP Spiritual Unity album. Always seemed a little scarey to me. Unfortunately, it may spook my wife, so I don't think I'll play it.

  24. Julius Hemphill is listed as producer on the Arista/Freedom issue of Dogon A.D. and on the Arista/Freedom issue of "The Hard Blues". Oliver Sain is listed as engineer, but he was associated with the world of blues and rhythm and blues, not the rock world. I've never seen the Mbari issue. Perhaps the credits are listed differently there.
