Knowing Cecil a bit, I'd guess he was looking forward to KD's participation. Never met him, but from hearing him speak at a Q/A session about 45 years ago, I have the sense that he can enjoy stirring things up.

John Coltrane: Coltrane Time (UA/King Japan) - aka Hard Driving Jazz Producer's record that didn't come off the way it might have if it were Cecil, Trane, and compatible musicians. That said, I enjoy listening to it - Cecil playing his thing, Trane trying to find a way to react/interact with Cecil, Kenny Dorham playing K.D. and probably getting more pissed about Cecil's playing by the minute, Israels & Hayes just trying to keep the peace. Don't listen to this often, but when I do I always find good things to hear.
