  1. Another vote for Post Office. I worked for the postal service and, while my experiences never quite matched Bukowski's, there's a lot of truth there. I'll recommend Dangling in the Tournefortia if anyone's interested in reading Bukowski's poetry.
  2. Mimi Hines Hines, Hines and Dad Fatha Hines
  3. Very best wishes to you on your birthday, Guy.
  4. Canteloube: Songs of the Auvergne - Netania Davrath (Vanguard/Artemis)
  5. Billy Byers Hawk Harrelson Ed Diehl
  6. Happy Birthday, spin!
  7. I listen to a lot of music, and many types of music, but I don't listen to be entertained. Perhaps some may see that as a fault or limitation, but I wouldn't change my listening habits for anything.
  8. "Moms" Mabley Papa Joe Sonny Boy Williamson (Take your pick from at least three I know of.)
  9. I'm not a writer - just a reader. Some years ago, I read Madeleine Blais' In These Girls, Hope Is a Muscle - a book written about a season with a female high school basketball team from Amherst, Ma. Archie Shepp is mentioned at least a couple of times in the book, with his name spelled Schepp. I had thoughts of contacting the author about the mistake, but never did. Checked when the paperback edition was published, and he was still Schepp.
  10. Ornette plays on Joe Henry's Scar and on Lou Reeds' The Raven - one track on each, I believe. Haven't heard either - I'm not enough of a completist for that. Perhaps I should be.
  11. Jimmy Castor Derek Fisher Tab Hunter
  12. Jimmy Knepper: Cunningbird (Steeplechase)
  13. :blush2: In his "Inside Be-Bop" ("Written by America's No.1 authority on Be-Bop" it says on the cover of the 1949 edition I found somewhere) Leonard Feather quotes Kenny Clark as saying Bud Powell "used to do all the things Monk wanted to do but couldn't. Bud had more technique; Monk was a teacher, a creator rather than a soloist." Feather was never exactly a Monk fan. Guess if I'm gonna go along with Len and Kenny Clarke I'll have to tune out whenever Monk solos on all the Monk records I have.
  14. Truck Stop Records - Kingston, N.Y. in the 70's - early 80's
  15. Roswell Rudd: "Coming On the Hudson" from Broad Strokes - short but sweet Jimmy Knepper: "Languid" from Cunningbird Vic Dickenson: "Old Fashioned Love" from Nice Work
  16. Would have liked to have caught that one.
  17. Gasport Igor Isobel
  18. There are times when I like to listen to music (live and recorded) with my eyes closed. I feel I hear the music more clearly and purely that way. At live performances, visuals can sometimes add something to the experience, but many times can distract one's attention from the sound of the music - at least imo.
  19. A couple: Leothus "Lee" Green: "The Way I Feel" from Lee Green Vol. 2 - 1930 -1937 (Document) - Sounds like a song I've heard elsewhere, but I can't place it. Lee Green does it beautifully. and Warne Marsh: "I Have a Good One for You" - alternate take 5 from All Music (Nessa)
  20. A couple more sax and piano: Bill Perkins + Frank Strazzeri: Two As One Nat Su & Michael Kanan: Dreams and Reflections
  21. Rabbit Maranville Bear Bryant Hound Dog Taylor
  22. The late, lamented Finyl Vinyl in NYC.
  23. Terry Moore Archie Moore Clayton Moore
  24. Bottleneck Starchie Salonica
  25. Gale Garnett Gene Simmons (not the Kiss guy) J. Frank Wilson
