How would you describe his solo style? I've heard him only in group settings. I love his mod/big band stuff on Capitol from the mid 60s.
He's a good post bop solo pianist. What I meant when I posted was that I expected a more cliched solo style than what I heard. He sounded like a man who's at peace with himself - if that makes sense.
I believe that Like It Is is still on the air in NYC - Ch 7 WABC on Sunday mornings. Haven't watched it in years, & only watched occasionally back in the day - too much dry political stuff for my tastes. Probably missed some good music & music interviews by not watching regularly.
According to the booklet in the Bear Family set (probably not recordingly correct to post in the 78 thread), Jimmie Tarlton did work in textile mills when he was young.
The three volume set includes everything. I have the two volume set and, imo, those contain the best of the Hines/Ellington material. I imagine others' mmv.
