Mosaic is what it is. Those who like what they do will buy Mosaics. Those who don't like what they do won't. Simple as that. Seems like something foolish to argue about.

  12. Any thoughts on Rouse's Bossa Nova Bacchanal?

  16. My brother saw it at least a year ago (if not longer) when it was making the rounds at film festivals. Being somewhat into jazz but never having heard of Jackie Paris, he said it was a good and interesting film. Thanks. I look forward to being able to see it on DVD.
  17. I did a search and there have been a lot of posts - 10 pages - mentioning the Clean Feed label. I thought it might be a good thing if people posted recommendations on one thread. (It certainly would be a good thing for someone like me who is fairly unfamiliar with the label and some of the artists who have recorded for it.) The only Clean Feed recording I have in my collection is Roswell Rudd/Mark Dresser: Airwalkers. I welcome any recommendations, and I'm sure others will too.
  18. Blues fans should jump on the Hop Wilson - unusual and fine stuff!
  19. Used to have the Jubilee vinyl. Now I enjoy it on the Mosaic Select - a fine date.
  20. Has anyone seen the film 'Tis Autumn - The Search for Jackie Paris? A DVD version is supposed to be released next spring.
  21. Milt Jackson + Count Basie + The Big Band Vol. 2 (Pablo) Been a while since I listened to this and it sounded better on this listen than I had remembered. Bags sounds inspired & like he was enjoying himself greatly. (And an interesting and cool bonus - Sarah Vaughan sings a wordless vocal as part of the band on "Lena and Lennie".)
  22. The only Bill Carrothers I have in my collection is The Language of Crows - a series of duets with vocalist Wendy Lewis. It's probably not typical of his recorded work - though after reading the series of posts on AAJ, it seems that there may not be a "typical" Bill Carrothers recording - consisting of original compositions by Wendy Lewis interspersed with works such as "Jesus Loves Me", "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", "Ballad of Lizzie Borden", and "Like a Sick Eagle" - a work by Keats set to music by Charles Ives. I've had this recording for 7-8 years, and have enjoyed it over that period. This thread is is good reminder to me to check out more Bill Carrothers.
