  1. Magic Sam … With a Feeling!
  2. "Rouse is in no way the co-star of that band." I don't believe that anyone said he was. The name of the band was the Thelonious Monk Quartet.
  3. Down in the Basement - Joe Bussard's Treasure Trove of Vintage 78s (Old Hat)
  4. Roy Hawkins: Highway 59
  5. I'm one who digs Frankie Dunlop's playing with Monk. He made the music dance - which is what Monk wanted.
  6. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy to see all of this happen.
  7. A friend sent me a mention that there was a commercial for the recent Trane album on CNN today. Has to be pretty rare for a jazz album to be advertised on TV. Looks like even more big bucks are going into promotion.
  8. I like Charlie Rouse's playing with Monk. I think he captured Monk's sound more than other saxophonists did. And I'll thrown this Rouse date into the mix. Very fine playing by Red Rodney too.
  9. Eric Dolphy & Booker Little: Memorial Album
  10. The Clovers: Their Greatest Recordings (Atco)
  11. I read his novel, The Tin Angel, years ago. RIP, Mr. Pines.
  12. Hey - when you make 58,000 posts, a bunch of them aren't going to make sense.
  13. Steve Lacy played soprano sax before Trane took it up. Or at least before Trane was recorded playing soprano.
  14. Reavis might well have been half brain dead when he made that comment.
  15. Charles Tyler: Saga of the Outlaws (Nessa)
  16. Ett Etta Baker: Railroad Bill (Music Maker)
