  1. Andrew Hill borrowed Silva and Waits (who were playing with Bill Dixon) for that session.
  2. When I watched Sonny Gray pitch for the Yankees, It looked as if he was constantly nibbling at the corners, as if he didn't trust his stuff to get hitters out. As the games went on, he'd get into trouble - walks, too many pitches, etc. I think he had good enough stuff to get hitters out without nibbling, but he evidently didn't have that confidence.
  3. Interesting and very good music, especially in terms of Ornette's history. It's been issued several times - I have it on a Royal Jazz CD. Interestingly, It evidently exists/existed as an Atlantic test pressing:
  4. The highlight is Otis Spann and S. Leary doing an intense "Hotel Lorraine", recorded in a storefront church on the day of the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
  5. A welcome reminder of the artistry of Jimmy Rushing
  6. At least the recordings will always be there for anyone who wants to listen.
  7. Doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. - at least not for me.
  8. I have no personal experience with tubed amps (only experience with a tubed preamp), but I have read reviews of tubed amps that warned that some get hot enough to cause a mild burn. Obviously not universal, but the heat factor evidently exists.
  9. My wife was an elementary school teacher and she recommended going to a community college for many of her former students and other young people she met. That can give a foundation for young people who don't know exactly what they want to do - and many don't when they're coming from high school - at a fairly reasonable price. Unfortunately, in the U.S. (and probably elsewhere) everything is about the almighty $ and status these days. It probably always was to some degree, but is even more so now.
  10. Unfortunately, not every record I bought back then was of the quality of that Monk record. When I was that age, I thought I had perfect taste and that I knew everything. I'm still learning today how much I didn't know back then and how much I don't know now.
