  1. Dang, that Pete, he's one of those rare gentlemen AND scholars! -_-
  2. The Sonny Simmons is running low too. Snagged me that and the new Lovano!
  3. There was a Japanese 16 cd Lester Young edition of the lp set (I believe it's the same). Very limited number made and very expensive to find these days! I've only ever seen it on ebay for prices I could not imagine paying. . . .
  4. Willie Cook. . . wow.

    Verve LPRs

This is a GREAT series! These I consider real real godsends! Slim Gaillard Rides Again! 6. Never saw him live, but I have learned to really love most all the recordings. Not sure if he is underrated or rated just right. . . but I'm a big fan.
  7. Yes, they were first released as a set, just the five discs in a paper wrapper surround "box". . . . I'm with the two gentlemen above: I bought this shortly after it first appeared and it's one incredible bargain!
  8. Patience is ALWAYS a good lesson to learn (and relearn).
  9. MANY more happy ones!
  10. Eager to hear from early "receivers!" I went the "preorder from cduniverse" route because I did a big order and threw that in before Chuck announced his plan to sell some. (I knew he would, but I was in the "eager eager" mode!)
  11. I've bought the Piazzola box. . . . I've listened to a few discs so far on my best system and they're a little on the fatiguing side. . . but they sound fine on my second system and in my work computer. Beautiful music from the late sixties through the early eighties! At about 14 dollars total NOTHING to complain about.
  12. Dick's Picks vol. 24 and vol. 30
  13. Crossan's "The Birth of Christianity" is helpful. Grant's book is pretty levelheaded. "Historical Jesus." Loaded phrase for many (I waffle less frequently these days).
  14. I've got this stuff on cd, nice music!
  15. I haven't bought anything since Friday. . . which was the newly remastered version of Bob Weir's "Ace" and the cd "Soundtrack" set of the Grateful Dead "Closing of Winterland" stuff.
  16. Yeah, I don't know what these tunes are but man that is a killer cd!

    Bennie Green

It's a good one GOM. Also, the Bethlehem under Green's name is a corker!
  18. I'm really getting into Betty Carter lately, I plucked two of hers off half.com, the Atlantic cd and the GRP cd.
  19. Here's my two cents: they are a small outfit. The same occurs in one of my favorite online stores, Worlds Records. These folk don't get huge volume discounts from distributors and they have higher overhead and they want to make a little money. You basically pay list price in both places. In the case of Mosaic, you get their filtering of all out there to what they feel is essential material. You pay for that knowledge and selection too. In the case of Worlds, they carry small independent labels that put out niche interest items and you can actually order then and receive them. You can get every Jazz Oracle from them for example; that is NOT the case with cduniverse, though you can sometimes get some of them from cduniverse for a bit less. You can also get from Worlds imports often a number of weeks before other distributors offer them for US release (Storyville, etc.) THAT is cool. Now I don't usually buy from trubeblue because for me (as for many of us here) my interests are broader and I generally already have the items they offer of artists that intrigue me, or will preorder them elsewhere and save some dollars. I do support Worlds Records though with my business because I like their support of the small niche products, AND I can often only easily find the material in their stock. Great little outfit!
  20. What! 36! Well. . . . many happy returns young man!
  21. Why? (or are you being facetious? ) ← I'm rather serious! I have a lot of items on my TO BUY radar! Too many, in fact I'll probably be passing the Slack Select! Unless some of the people here whose opinion I trust prove me I'm in error ← I wouldn't at all say it is an essential purchase. I'm getting it because I have (and ENJOY) the material with Ella Mae and want the rest that surrounds it. I like it, it's boogie woogie Western style swing stuff and I find I like to listen to a little bit of that from time to time. The transfer and mastering should be top notch, and the booklet will fill me in on Slack, I don't know THAT much about him. And I finally got a bit of an increase at work (after four years of NOTHING I got a 2000 dollar one time bonus) and so I wanted to celebrate with something!
  22. Whoah! Didn't know I had such valuable stuff in my room!
  23. OBVIOUSLY he's not from Paris, TEXAS.
  24. Based on the samples, the Slack's the one for me. ← Yeah, I have the stuff with Ella Mae Morse already, so I think the rest will be wonderful too.
