  1. Lived near this stadium from age two to eleven. . . It is no longer standing. . . I saw this photo and immediately remembered it!
  2. Spent my first two years near Union Seminary NYC where my Dad was studying. Always like the look of the place.
  3. Sometimes I ride in a "Hybrid" bus, though I'm not sure what sort of powertrain it actually has! I think if I were to go back to having a car I would look seriously at a hybrid. . . though by the time I decide to a fuel cell vehicle may be available!
  4. D. E. T. S. . . . one of the reissue series I've been most excited about this century.
  5. I like Crumb; I recently reread his "Comics Journal" inteview which is very good, less unsettling in a way than seeing the movie. . . which IS unsettling, to me at least. That statue. . . good Gott. . . is there a whole series!?
  6. I believe I may have posted her film counterpart actress on the babe thread! Actually, what I dug about Marvel Girl was . . .her mental powers! Honest!
  7. Good information Sidewinder, could well have been a or the factor.
  8. When I see these I think of the early sixties when I was a kid and there were G I Joes and there was the start of some of these type of figurines from DC and Marvel. . .and I thought "Oh my Gosh, this would be like playing with DOLLS!" and steered way clear! I never thought they would catch on but I see so many "action figures" in supermarkets and drugstores that I guess they have. Some of these sort of remind me of the only TV show I got to watch every now and then in Ethiopia: Thunderbirds. Now there's a movie coming out of Thunderbirds! It's almost as if my inner preadolescent fantasy world is becoming movies lately with all the comic book movies, King Arthur, Troy, tv remakes, etc !
  9. OUCH! You did do some damage to that amp. . . . Sorry again to hear it! Sounds like you had some fun auditioning yesterday!
  10. I'll agree it would have been nice! But apparently it was not easy for him to just continue taping, and he did choose the writing to the recording (something I might do NOW and might not have done twenty years ago!) Also, it's possible that he had received some flak/pressure for recording, that Scott may have removed his approval, I don't think we have enough information. I'd love to hear a lot more recordings from the sixties from Scott's though!
  11. Now that's a well-trained secretary!
  12. Yes, I'm assuming you've had this serviced and they came to that conclusion. Otherwise, there are several times I've thought amps were dead and instead fuses were blown by a bad solder joint or a leaking capacitor. . .
  13. Looked to me as if he became editor. Seems that could mean longer hours and could also have put him in a position where he didn't feel safe doing recording. I don't know. Sometimes a person makes decisions on what is important to their world that may be different than what we might choose. Then again, I might choose the articles too . . . hard to say.
  14. Charles, sorry to hear that about your Audio Note. If you're going to be hunting, I recommend checking out this site: http://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm
  15. I have five watt per channel Monoblocks, and a tubed (modified) Sony SACD/DVD player. . . doesn't put off too much heat! The PS Audio Power Plant PS300 puts off more!
  16. From his biographic information looks like he got too busy.

    The Arrangers

Good call Maren, we daren't forget her. Mary Lou too.
  18. Well interestingly, the Alice cd is now scheduled for 9/14 on the Verve site release schedule, and there is no scheduled date shown for the Half Note!
  19. Some discussion (and quite a bit of speculation that has a good chance of accuracy) here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...t+the+half+note
  20. Ya think someone's family is getting some money?
  21. I ordered the new Mingus on Verve today (The Great Concert), and the three Ellington cds that will be coming out next week (Blues in Orbit, Piano in the Foreground, Piano in the Background). All pretty cheap from cduniverse!
  22. Prestige leased it from a label that is now part of the Universal umbrella is my guess. This is one of the best of the 1964 European tour concerts, and it is in really good sound overall so this reissue should sound fantastic. . . . I love this tour for the performances of the entire group: Coles was great til he took ill, Dolphy and Jordan were individually and collectively great, Byard was really ON IT the whole time, Mingus was in charge and HAPPY, Danny was the backbone as always.
  23. Previous thread on this: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...+charles+mingus
  24. Yes, it was out on Musique Disc France two cd set earlier than the digipak, without the newly issued material and with a track with Coles NOT from the concert originally I believe. CDUniverse has this item for 14 dollars! I just ordered a copy and preordered the three Duke Ellingtons coming out next week!
