I don't get it either as these are magnificent sessions. Not to mention the fact that it constantly amazes me how great they sound and they were recorded with ONE microphone! Truly careful and thoughtful engineering; the balance of sound and tone is wonderful!

Probably. The Impulse series I have seen lately from Japan has been lp tracks only, nothing extra.

I saw her perform a duet on a reallllllyyyyyy bad really bad Motown tv tribute. She did fairly well, reminding me of Janis Joplin, though I had to close my eyes to really be reminded of Janis!

Hey I can understand that. . . . I don't have mine any longer, sold it to get the Monoblocks from the same builder that I now have that have about twice the power. .. five watts per channel! Sound almost the same, but drive the Decware Radial speakers better. I spent a lot but man I love the sound, and just when I got this system dialed in I inherited a Bang and Olufsen from my wife's aunt and now have a great living room system as well (which is totally different!)

Not easy to listen to at all, I'll not deny that, and I can sure understand living without it. But I like to hear it now and then (and will bring it out again soon as the stereo is sounding great these days and that HELPS believe it or not). Man, Pharoah. . . it's just the energy that he unleashes, the feeling in his sound just washes into me and it's very catharctic! That's the main thing I have this one for. . . Pharoah and the cleansing!

Can't wait to hear how happy you'll be once you get your amp Tony! Yes, I think that the simplification of the DAC that your Audio Note espouses (as does my modified Sony universal player from Decware to an extent) makes for great sonic enjoyment!

My dad is pretty hip, thanks to mine and more importantly my jazz loving and trumpet playing youngest brother (who has been around the nest longest) leading him to some new directions. Of course it was his love of Gershwin and swing (and a few odd Ellington lps) when we were youngsters that are responsible for some of our tastes. My brother has recently gotten him interested in Jobim's music and somehow I feel that this recording by Schneider will be one that he plays a lot. . . I'm eager find out! I continue to wallow in the beauty of this release.

I like it, a lot. Didn't expect to like it as much as I do. I'd recommend it, especially at that price (it has never been EXPENSIVE, but that's a good price!)

hockman is right: audiophilia is a dangerous disease to contract. However, I find that judicious choice of equipment yields great enjoyment with music, and I have LITERALLY been spending what some spend on a car payment on stereo equipment and music (and going without a car) for nearly a decade now and my life is richer for it. I find it makes even the worst privately recorded live gigs sound a little better and the best masterings and recordings sound fantastic. I don't listen to just the good sounding discs, I don't own "Jazz at the Pawnshop" in any form! Hey, I've bought instruments too, so I'm attacking it from another angle as well. I respect everyone's viewpoint here in this thread. I'm stuck with mine, happily.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Steve Ellington's playing, but his ride cymbal's sound and its place in the mix distracts me (not in a good way) immensely! It's not at its worst on this recording, which is a good one. I don't mind Byrd here. . . I'm less of a Hubbard fan than many so I'm happy with Byrd.

I have Feelin' the Spirit now ONLY in the JRVG, which sounds good (when you reverse the polarity!) so I'm eager for this RVG with the extra tracks!

I have a few that are "XX" (they were promotional in nature, they weren't numbered sets). A poster here helped me immensely by pointing out that I could consider those "Number 20"!

They're almost all equally good, but Fine and Dandy and Blue Moods I may reach for a tad more often. . . .

Just a minor correction: this was not a Connoisseur but was a regular issue deleted, and then brought back in the Collectors Classics series. . . . Good price for a great session!

If you are a fan of piano trios, you'll like the Mosaic set. . . . It's piano trio through and through (one appearance by Mulligan with the trio excepted). It's deeper music than it may appear on the surface I would say. . . .

I honestly think the best way to get the thirties work is the HEP cds, there are about six or so maybe seven, they have incredibly good sound thanks to work by the late J. R. T. Davies, and they have the celebrated sides with Billie Holiday AND the lesser known instrumental sides and sides with other singers, as well as the first several dozen of his big band sides. . . . Great series of cds!
