  1. Alright! Fun FULLY experienced!
  2. I grew up with a Dynaco set up my dad had that had variable settings for the stereo spread; a very handy thing to have in the mid sixties and up! I find that my Decware Radial speakers throw such a great soundstage with a depth that is satisfying even on these hard panned early stereo things. . . . Or at least less annoying.
  3. Cary, I simply meant that to MY EARS "Poor Eric" is inspired, and arranged similarly (with the bowed bass under the horn) to Mingus's "Meditations on a Pair of Wire Cutters" which was inspired by Eric and seemed to be performed as a tribute to him after Eric's death.
  4. "Poor Eric". . . also known as "Meditations on a Mingus Tribute to his Friend!"
  5. All I can say to help you out is that I have heard the RCA box, bought it for my parents for Christmas 1992, and I have heard it quite often in their Ohio home when I visit them. It sounds quite nice indeed, this was music that was very well recorded, and the remastering is good. Also, there is great music on this set; I happen to like the very least popular pieces, go figure. Some of the instrumentals really ROCK, I say that because they have a hard rocking swing different from the hard swing of some other bands. (Or at least that's they way it strikes me).
  6. Fun stuff Vint! Thanks for sharing and congrats on your instant fame!
  7. Kindness and humility and compassion are important traits I look for in people. I also appreciate people who think for themselves and question party lines and dogma.
  8. I think it's Prince's band with Miles participating a little. Haven't heard it. In a like manner, I have been hearing echoes of Miles' band with Lucas and Cosey echoing in pop music and such for about three decades now. . .. !
  9. Have you checked out Bobby Broom? "Stand" is a great cd!
  10. If anyone is talking to Bob Belden or Michael Cuscuna these days. . .ask him when this set/these sets are coming out! First thing I'll buy is anything with disc four in it!
  11. Hmmm. . . it may be at that! I think I understand what they say all too well. . . I understand most of them are mostly lying.
  12. Consider them . . . attributes. Not qualities, agreed. . . .
  13. "It's tough because this world often rewards a-holes." --AB HEY! I totally disagree. . . with the "often!" Isn't it "always"? Arrogance and cruelty? Yes. Hypocrites and bigots don't get my nod of approval either.
  14. Whether tis nobler in the mind To suffer the McMaster Or to upgrade. . . that is the question. The answer for me is replace the McMaster! I upgrade a lot. I shouldn't probably, but I do. I'm a sucker for improved sound, but at the same time I listen to a lot of stuff that sounds awful! Truly, I am a complicated person.
  15. How did we overlook Ella and Louis! Still, I think that I have to contend that the full opera is very interesting to experience. . . There is a lot of material that does not get jazz treatments, just as there are big chunks of the Miles and Gil that aren't from the opera! The 1951 "cast" recording really is the best I've heard. . . .

    Bix Beiderbecke

Nine to twelve, depending on whose series you grab and how full the cds are.
  17. I know there was one, but I've never heard it!
  18. I agree. The Mosaic sets sound fantastic! They can be a little unsettling if you are very used to the lps or the previous cds. . . they ARE remixed. But the sound is GLORIOUS.

    Bix Beiderbecke

I'm a Bix completist, but I'm already complete!
  20. The Bethlehem two lp/two cd set is interesting. Here is my favorite: This Sony Classical recording from 195 is da bomb.
  21. That Columbia cd (an English copy!) is the one that got ME started some years back. . . . I've grabbed all I can find of his since! A MASTER! If I just had to have ONE it just might be the Storyville. . . .
  22. I've never been able to pull the ebay trigger on these because the prices were too high. . . never heard this stuff. Eventually someone will put it out on cd. Good job for Water Records I'd say!
  23. Don't hesitate to deal with this vendor. Good peop's! I've gone the "Maxislim" route. Not really more expensive if you search for a good price. Half the width of a jewel case. Can sort by colors. . . .

    Help Wanted...

After my decade or so of upgrading, I have to recommend www.decware.com The products there are really so loud in the "bang for your buck" department, dependable, hand-built, and most of all sound fantastic! I've been using their products for about seven years and eventually my main system will likely be ALL Decware. . . right now I only lack the source component. You'll find innovative thinking in many ways as well. There are pages on room setup here that I think are quite valuable. I wasn't able to put them in place, at least not yet. . . .
