  1. Here may now be the only Blue Note board "in town": http://www.bluenoteeurope.com/mb/
  2. Keren Ann. . . well she sounds not unlike a Euro Norah from what I can hear. Might be interesting. . .
  3. Yeah Gary, welcome! Yes, all props to the net! I can fondly remember the time I got an email out of the blue from Tony Sparbaro (Spargo)'s grandson!
  4. There's always the Blue Moon and a Japanese edition or two isn't there Bertrand? The Mosaic has better mastering (and is remixed as well) but the Blue Moon and Japanese VeeJay versions of the material sound better than the US "VeeJay Partnership" cds did!
  5. Nice covers. . . but shouldn't that session be called "Mikey no Likey"?
  6. Thanks for sharing that story Marty!
  7. I'm with Dr. J on this one, all the way.

    Elvin is dead

I'm not ready for a round of Elveen listening the way I see happening here on the board. I'm saddened by the loss of this giant, but. . . well. . . I've had Elvin as a regular part of my listening life for many years and I don't feel I need to break that habit. Or maybe it's because we're still in the twelve day funerary cycle one has for the great immortal heroes when they are taken away in battle. . . maybe I'll feel differently when that cycle is over and his spirit has moved on across the Styx. . . .
  9. The Art Hodes sessions. Sadly, not comprehensively reissued in the states outside of the Mosaic set (long out of print). But. . . one might still find the "Runnin' Wild" cd out under Sidney Bechet's name here and there, and well worth the hunt. Hodes is a big part of the success of the sessions and plays extremely well, as does Bech and Wild Bill!
  10. Yes, thanks for reminding me of this one guys! I'm not the greatest of Hubbard fans, but I like him here and Woody is wonderful!
  11. Have a great day and a better night!
  12. Someone should get those Dragon cds! Great price for wonderful music!
  13. "The Music of Quincy Jones, As Played By. . . " oh it's vinyl on cdr!
  14. I really like the work he did on two cds by bassist Tom Brigandi, "Late Night New York" and "After Hours."
  15. Hey Eric, it's the box set cover image, really quite nice and big and well printed. . .and beautifully framed. After I got over the horror of what the framing cost I became quite happy and proud of it!
  16. I bought what appears to be a Chinese (?) copy of "Kill Bill Volume One" off half.com and watched it this weekend. Oddly, it seemed to have some brief material that was not in the original film and there were very short portions where no matter what the language selection made on the dvd, and no matter that the actors were speaking English in the US theatrical release, the actors were speaking Japanese on the dvd! Made for an interesting second viewing of this movie. . . . I really don't like the violence, but I do find this a fascinatingly written and filmed movie.
  17. Well, not "statute of limitations," but it has been more than fifty years since these 1952 Trio recordings and so the fifty year international copywrite no longer protects them . . . .
  18. For me, the most expensive of all the Miles box sets was the Gil Evans box. . . . I bought it on the day of release, sent the little post card off in the mail for one of the lithographs they were giving away to the first 300 responders, and never expected to be among the first 300 worldwide. Well, I was and a few months later I received the lithograph, promptly inspiring my wife to take it to the frame shop and have it triple matted beautifully framed to the tune of about 250 dollars. . . . GULP. It's been hanging in my living room ever since.
  19. You are correct, just certain tracks from these releases are included in the Quintet box: Filles De Kilimanjaro (1969) Water Babies (1976) Circle In The Round (1979) Directions (1981) The Columbia Years 1955-1985 (1988) Thanks for posting those pictures; look like great sets! I will not buy them again, I will not buy them again, I will not buy them, again, again, I will not buy them. . . .
  20. Many more happy returns!
  21. They're both just a few months or so older than my parents. . . quite interesting to put their careers into THAT perspective!
  22. I had to think about it but I think I would agree with your compairson Tony, except to say that both these artists were MORE that way in their MATURE phase, than in their earlier years. . . . The very first decade of B. B. or so I would say show many many evidences (to me) of a master guitarist just cutting loose and holding nothing back emotionally, technically, or with tone . . . . Also I find that this is partly the case in early Pepper as well. . . .
  23. Not sure I have heard any othe Jazz Friends releases, but I agree: Les Trinitaires is a good one! Going to have to dig it out and spin it again soon!
  24. I love both Hodges Mosaics, not sure that the second half of the first one isn't as good as any half of the second. . . . I do want to mention something: I really love Malcolm Addey's work, but in many of the Mosaics, I think we also need to laud the work of the TRANSFERRER, in this case the credits are: Tape transfers: Jeff Willins Mastered using 24-bit resolution by Malcolm Addey Jeff Willins did a great job as well as Malcolm Addey!
  25. Sade. I make no apologies. She's/they are one of a kind.
