  1. I'm just very happy that Tyrone Washington strove to play a lot more like Tyrone Washington than Joe Henderson. Which may have been Chuck's point!
  2. Many more happy returns!
  3. Fired one back at ya. Keystone 3 is the one that I don't have. 100 bucks! I'm not that hungry for it!
  4. Well, I guess the title track may be the one I play least often! I just think that this one is brimming with ideas from Cannon. Makes so many other albums sound stale.
  5. Brad, cool avatar! I found that image on the web about six months ago and used on a cdr cover (from videotaped performances.) Really nice (odd, but in a way fitting) painting!
  6. I'm with SHR on this one, exactly: the first three discs suck soundwise!
  7. Mercy, Mercy, Mercy by Cannonball Adderley, on Capitol. This one SMOKES so many others and BURNS like a welding torch.
  8. AAJ mentioned above is the bulletin board on the All About Jazz site: http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/index.php?s= May find an answer there (I'm not revealing whether I would lay any money down on the odds!)
  9. Fantastic two cd set. Great price too!
  10. I'm exactly with you, I like the vocals. . . the bagpipes I wish weren't there. I'm just not a fan of bagpipes PERIOD!
  11. Safe assumption sir!
  12. Vibes, have you seen this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...?showtopic=4062 Extensive discussion of the series. I'm a big fan of this series. The sound is very good, or rather the remastering is very good, and the sound is varied by sources, most sounding very good indeed. A wonderful horn of jazz plenty!
  13. There are a few Freddie Hubbard lps I'd like to hear. . . without Freddie.
  14. It's worth the bite, unless you're blessed by being in a great vinyl hunting area. . . even so I'm not sure all the alternates were available on vinyl (maybe; I've had this on cdr of two lps, the Twardzik and one called "Piano Galore" . . . I'm not sure these had all the Twardzik items on this cd.)
  15. I got mine from Red Trumpet, and they seem to have it still: http://www.redtrumpet.com/software/item.ph...&sid=1151033254
  16. That reverb etc. was Teo's contribution to the original album of the "It Club" release. UGH. France just used his tapes, not the original undoctored tapes that Columbia used for it's cd release.
  17. I should have qualified my statement to say that I haven't heard the Philology cds, only a lot of the material on other (earlier released) recordings.
  18. The sound quality on a lot of this stuff is pretty bad. . . .
  19. I know two vinylnuts that love this one. . . but I know what you'll say. http://www.decware.com/phono/zp1.htm Haven't heard it myself, but I think his products are fantastic, have lived with several for years. Amazing bang for buck!
  20. I for one don't have the box, just a number of single releases (including three or four Japanese) and having all the masters in one place makes sense to me.
  21. The Dick Cathcart would be cool indeed. . . a great trumpeter! Hey, is that really Bix under that snow? B)
  22. 01011001011011110010000001101101011000010110110101100001 Is this egghead fun or Pocket Protector Poesy?
  23. Here's a review of the Slim Gaillard Proper box set I did for AAJ; there are reviews there of the Tatum and other boxes as well. . . . http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/review.php?id=10872 I've had this one, and I have the Wills, Milton Brown, Hillbilly Boogie, Wynonie Harris and Swing Tanzen Verboten boxes. I haven't listened to them much. . . .They're cool though. I wasn't crazy about Proper at first, because with artists such as Pres and Hawk they weren't putting entire sessions into the boxes and I was just worried that material would become orphaned and forgotten, or that people would pick up the Pres box and think they didn't need to get anything else. . . . I've been won over by the boxes they have released that are more complete, such as the Harris and Brown and a few others. . . .
  24. I agree Joe; more recordings from that Silver group would be really welcome!
