An interesting project conceived and produced by the late Bob Belden who was always generous in communication with me and other fans. Miles pieces re-imagined with care and innovation compared to the originals. Neat arrangements and performances. And some excellent engineering. “Miles en Espanol: New Sketches of Spain” 2 disc set

I really like that quartet Hawkins had at this time. I have this on SACD. I like it!

James Francies “Flight” Blue Note cd Francies’ first release as a leader. I like this better than his second.

Coleman Hawkins “Vol. 2 1943-1944” Neatwork cd

I have utter chaos in my collection, very little is filed in any order with only Miles, Dylan, Blue Note, Impulse, and Bethlehem really filed properly together. That's how I like it, I hunt and peck and get a variety of listening as a result. I think it's our tastes and listening habits, I don't have any "genre" separation or classification. I don't listen at all to soundtracks, "international jet set singers," or anything exotic or lounge related, and don't drink so there's no "party" music. And I don't have any "Brazilian bags" . . . I might play a Brazilian artist after a Chicago style record or a Blue Note album.

Our tastes are very different so I wouldn't expect them to line up.

1m Shirley Horn “Here’s to Life” Verve cd. Beautiful session with strings. Lucious sound.

I have her entire Verve catalog as well. I consider her a Brazilian singer--she has the accent and she sings in a Brazilian style. Other Brazilian singers sang American and international songs as well. She was unfortunately not popular in Brazil. And she was an accidental star in a sense. I'm not a big fan. She just seems quintessentially Brazilian in her style and approach to me.

James Francies “Purest Form” Blue Note cd Just as in the past I would choose an artist such as Wynton Kelly or James Spaulding or Wilbur Ware to aid in exploring new music for a time (by buying sessions where they were sidemen) this decade I have picked Joel Ross and/or Immanuel Wilkins as artists to look for as sidemen on an album. That led me to this one. Not quite what I expected. I’m digesting it.

Cool. It's not at all a factor in my estimation of his work. I like his work of the last three decades more than the three before I think. I certainly play it more often.

Personally I don't see it that way. She may have tried to escape the label of Brazilian singer and patriate (mainly I would say due to political changes at home), but she remained one at the core. That's how I see it. Vive la difference.

One of the very few rock/blues/pop persons I still follow, and . . . Wow. This one has the magic for me. Old timey. . .no new. . . late night front porch jam. . . no meticulously recorded studio session. . . . So wonderfully arranged, sequenced and selected. I never paid to view this when it was available, and that doesn’t matter because now I can listen to it and be wrapped up in the spell. Bob Dylan “Shadow Kingdom” Columbia/Sony cd

Harish Raghavan “Calls For Action” I missed this one when released, the bassist’s first as a leader. What a band! I’m not sure I would make the same engineering choices, but the music is very good.
