  1. I read this nearly three decades ago, and re-read it about fifteen years ago. I guess I'm due for a re-read soon enough, I may have to dig my copy out of storage next time I make an archaeological expedition into my unit. A great jazz book, as you say. Among the best.
  2. This is a fantastic set I have had first on cd and then bought on LP five years ago. I love this music! Such variety, and all fun to listen to. Last month Dusty Groove in Chicago offered this LP set for about a third of what I paid for mine and I grabbed it. Turned out to be a previously unplayed mint set. I mailed it to my best friend in Texas, avant-garde and jazz trumpeter Dave Laczko and he’s really enjoying it so I thought I would join in. Now listening to sides G and H. Duke Ellington “Complete 1947-1952” CBS France 6 LP set

  8. I don't know how "quietly" it went when it was announced "Last Chance" in May. Sorry to see it go. I pre-ordered it and it's a great set.
  9. Mario Adnet “Jobim Jazz” Adventure Music cd I love this music, and its sequel, “+Jobim Jazz.” And it has great sound. I always buy an Adventure Music cd with confidence–consistently great sound.

  15. “Monk Big Band and Quartet in Concert” Columbia/High Density Tape Transfer cdr 600×600 113 KB This is an interesting version of this material. Here’s the source according to the “label” Recording Info: Transferred from a Columbia 4-track tape It’s the content of the original LP and only the original LP, but it includes the edits removed for the original LP. Sound is quite nice.
  16. If I could just have one Mingus box set I think it would be the Debut--such varied material, great music. Luckily, I can have all the Mingus box sets. A better situation.
  17. Charles Mingus “Mingus Moves” Atlantic cd From this new box set Discogs Charlie Mingus - Changes: The Complete 1970s Atlantic Studio Recordings I have the cd version. Mastering is very good.

  19. My rock concert days were before the heavy merch days. Long ago, far away. Not sure about bow ties.
  20. I hadn't thought about this. I wonder if it's a case of "demand." I do know some jazz fans who. . .wouldn't wear a t-shirt of a jazz artist. They dress a little bit more. . .refined. Myself, I appreciate a good t-shirt with printing but so much more often I wear a plain colored t-shirt of which I have a spread of colors available. When I have a really nice printed t-shirt, such as the four Uniquo that I have. . . I worry about harming the printing in use or washing. I find I don't wear them as often as I imagine I would when I buy them.
  21. Duke Ellington “The Lost Recordings–Live at the Berlin Jazz Festival 1969-1973” Ellington’s piano playing in his later years is awesome to hear.
