I just don't think we're the target audience. In part I think the box set came about because they could be assembled with all these labels now under one roof. They can reuse previously paid for masterings and make a nice little set for newer collectors.

"Carminho Canta Jobim" . . . The recording is a bit compressed but this is beautiful music.

Since the Ellington doesn't count, I would say that my earliest is probably yours, the Tristano recording from the Confucius Room.

The Django box set is also very enjoyable.

In my opinion the sound is quite good. For the price these are very nice sets (though the contents are likely to present some duplication with the collection of many of us).

Been on quite a musical journey today. Started with the 3 Sounds "Moods" on an 80th Anniversary Japanese Blue Note cd Followed by the XRCD of Johnny Griffin "The Little Giant." Then Duke Pearson's "It Could only Happen with You" on a Japanese Blue Note EMI cd. Then Carlos Santana and Alice Coltrane "Illumination" on the Vocalion Dutton SACD. Finally right now Keith Jarrett Trio "Up for It" on ECM cd.

Listened to two albums that couldn't have been more different! Jimmy McGriff "Electric Funk" Blue Note Japan cd Mel Torme "Sings Fred Astaire" Bethlehem cd

Listened to this LP Facsimile Miles Davis disc from 2000, DSD mastering, best I've heard this title on digital in stereo. Lovely sound! Miles Davis +19 "Miles Ahead" Followed by George Braith "Extension" Blue Note Japan cd.

That cd also had a European release, so there are more out there than just a US release. I have the Europen version. Great music! I've pre-ordered the new Fontana set and what pushed me over the line was the inclusion of the new two disc "lost album" set.

"Duke Ellington Presents" Bethlehem/Verse Records cd A favorite.

Listened to portions of six Bethlehem cds, two from Verse, and four from Solid Records Japan, three titles in duplicate and decided which to keep and which go on the sales pile. They were the Bethlehems from Dexter Gordon, Nina Simone and Mal Waldron. Then listened to this very nice Evidence cd: Bobby Hutcherson "Farewell Keystone"

The owner of the material probably can do whatever they want with the material, especially if that's part of the licensing deal. And Mosaic never does streaming or downloading nor licenses for that so Universal . . . as my Mom used to say. . . . "Why wouldn't they?"
