  1. Well, Resonance mentions transcription sides, and to be honest I think an additional 80 tracks would be sufficient for the other material. We'll see I guess. I'm in. . . I'd love to have all this in one place.
  2. I have all 5 of those too, they sound great and have great music. (Wish the mini LPs were a little different but it's a minor quibble.)
  3. Joe Pass!
  4. In case the firewall hampers you as it does me: https://www.trending-news-network.com/nat-king-coles-early-years-are-getting-the-archival-treatment/
  5. Yes. No Jackie from this year should be ignored!
  6. What a band! Jackie Mclean "It's Time!" Blue Note Japan 80th Anniversary cd reissue.
  7. Chris Connor "Sings the Gershwin Almanac of Songs" Atlantic Records, cd 1
  8. Last one today, it's too hot upstairs. Big John Patton, "Got A Good Thing Goin'" 80th Anniversary reissue cd from Blue Note Japan. I like the alternate cover too.
  9. Yesterday DHL dropped off a box I have been waiting for, over 20 of this month's releases from Blue Note Japan of their 80th Anniversary cd reissues. I really like this series, I think they sound good and with a few tweaks to the system they really shine. Yesterday and today so far I've listened to: Grachan Moncur III "Evolution" Lou Donaldson "Sunny Side UP" Stanley Turrentine "Live at Minton's Vol. 1" Cliff Jordan "Cliff Craft" "John Jenkins / Kenny Burrell" I'm going to have a lot of the earlier US reissues to sell. Which will help pay for these!
  10. Right now, seems appropriate Max Roach "We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Suite"

    Kenny Burrell

It is totally conceivable that a major illness can make anyone that isn't one of the 1% "broke." My wife's two years of cancer treatment cost more than fifteen times my then annual salary; had she not had excellent (University of Texas employee) insurance and had her father not helped us out with money to also have an apartment and living expenses near the M.D. Anderson Research Center for nearly a year while still maintaining our home and my job in Austin, I'd have gone VERY "broke." I hope all is on the up and up and that somehow Mr. Burrell finds health.
  12. Bobby Broom + the Organi-sation "Soul Fingers"
  13. Well, that's the way things develop. Wire was something known, something to work with. It sure sounded better than lacquer discs. And then a further development. .. magnetic tape. But they didn't get to the tape before using the wire and discovering its limitations. Now there's. . . digital. . . a whole other ballgame.
  14. Well, I get it. . . magnetism. Made sense to have some metal moving for that purpose, and wire was a good way to do that. It was the next step to have metallic particles on tape. . . but I get that magnetism was the way into the process.
  15. Interesting that they have the actual machine. Very cool. He did use the wire recorder in NYC and the disc cutter in California. Thank goodness we had him, he contributed a considerable amount of Bird to posterity.
  16. It wasn't that sonically deficient, better than 78 rpm disc. No surface noise.
  17. Bill Evans "Evans in England" disc 1
  18. I got that. Was just adding a clarifying bit.
  19. Stan Getz, "Getz at the Gate" disc 2
  20. They seem to be new masterings to me. And sound quite nice.
  21. He used a disc recorder, then a wire recorder.
  22. I finally got around to opening this two cd set that arrived a few weeks back. Nice sound. Great performances. Stan Getz, "Getz at the Gate" disc 1
  23. This morning I'm re-listeneing to two I spun yesterday: The debut release from Miki Yamanaka, a nice pianist with Steve Nelson on vibes. Grant Green "Carryin' On" Blue Note 80th Anniversary reissue cd Miki's is a very nice sounding release. I wish I liked Joey Baron more--his work doesn't really thrill me, so I'd have welcomed a different drummer. The Green is not among his best work but this new mastering has made me appreciate it more. Some nice song choices.
  24. Been a long time since Jim has been around. I'm not sad about Joao's passing--he had a long and fruitful life. Thank you Mr. Gilberto for all the wonderful music!
