The Rich Corpolongo Quartet “Smile”
Rich on multiple reeds with Larry Luchowski on piano, Eric Hochberg on bass, and Michael Raynor on drums
All originals. Reminds me of Atlantic and early Impulse Trane.
A muggy morning! The system is all warmed up and sounding great.
Jason Roebke Octet “High/Red/Center” Delmark cd
with Greg Ward, Jason Adasiewicz, Jason Roebke, Jason Stein, Jeb Bishop, Josh Berman, Keefe Jackson, Mike Reed
Yes, different, non RVG, non McMaster mastering--mastered by Kevin Reeves. I like the RVGS (I have kept US and Japanese versions) AND I like this 2 cd set which sounds very good as well.
I think the RVG cds sound really darned good on all the Monk and Monk/Jackson material. Possibly the very best digital sound of the Monk led sessions is on this two cd set:

Re-listening to this one. So good, there is so much here.

Allen Lowe “Louis Armstrong’s America Volume 1”
Got this and Volume 2 in the mail from Allen, pre-ordered it some months back. It’s as wild as I thought it would be and rather thought-provoking.

dward Petersen “Upward Spiral” Delmark cd
Edward Peterson on tenor sax, Fareed Haque on guitar, Brad Williams on piano, Rob Amster on bass, and Jeff Stitely on drums
Ife I think was recorded in '72. All the items in "Big Fun" were recorded between '69 and '72. It is absolutely essential to my jazz library, fantastic music. You should check it out.
Mulgrew Miller Roy Hargrove “In Harmony” Resonance Records 2 lp set, LP 1
I got the 2 cd set upon release, but Resonance was selling this 2 LP set so cheaply that I picked it up. Both formats sound great.
Got a little more sleep before the old dog woke me up. Nice cool, quiet morning.
I have been revisiting a few Armacost discs that I never played much and then filed away. . . .
Tim Armacost “Fire” Concord cd
Another Miles. . . this time “My Funny Valentine” Sony Blu-Spec CD2. This is a remaster of the Mark Wilder remix and mastering. I usually listen to the MoFi SACD of the original mix. . . this is an interesting listen and sounds very good.
I would say the same thing about my first decade of jazz exploration. Then the boom of jazz reissues on cd made things amazingly delightful. . . and since then so many discs are still available and coming out (I don't stream). . . it's a wonderful time to be a music fan.
