1024×1024 153 KB The Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab One Step 2 LP box Re-listening to LP 2 of this 2 LP set. It’s hard to explain what is the difference between this set and other releases I have. There is more “atmosphere” here and I think it’s because the background is so dark and silent that little details come in and help with instrument placement and dynamic texture. During “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down” I was able to hear a little more definition and heft to the fascinating notes that Dave Holland was supplying with inspiration. That’s among my favorite parts of the release and it was really intriguing to hear. This is a very interesting mastering and pressing. As a lover of “Bitches Brew” I find it worth the wait.

Another soggy cool morning. Spring has really sprung though–it’s beautiful to see the lovely early shades of green on the thousands of trees around us. Starting off with this disc of Sarah Vaughan Mercury recordings. I really like Sarah. I want to love Sarah. I keep listening on and off trying to fall harder for her. “The Complete Sarah Vaughan on Mercury Vol. 4” disc 1

Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz #279 – 11 CDs

Thanks. That's good news! -
Kenny Burrell & Art Blakey “On View At the Five Spot.Cafe” Blue Note Japan SHM-SACD The entire content of the new 2 cd set on one SACD. Sounds very good–a bit “faster” and less warm than the Analogue Productions SACD I also have.

Very good advice. I had this done and was relieved to find that other than the irregular heart beat (which I knew before hand I had, and that stress testing has revealed becomes regular and steady when the rate is elevated and so not very worrisome) I have good cardiac health. Jut had my eyes tested and I still don't need to wear glasses--the only member of my family, parents or siblings, who hasn't needed glasses since adolescence. I'm grateful for that as well!

Indeed, that was pretty much what I said when I first spun that side, seconds in: "What a bummer." I sent an email to Music Direct, my source, and hope they'll take care of this (they have been good in regard to errors and faults in the past). EDIT TO ADD: Just got an email back from Music Direct--they are sending me a replacement LP. Good company.

Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz #279 – 11 CDs
jazzbo replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I don't think that any specific info has been released--there was talk from Mosaic about a second big band cd set possible, not sure that there was more mentioned from the source other than "possible" or in the consideration stage. EDIT TO ADD: The only mention I have found of it is in this, the first post of the thread: (Scott Wenzel quoted) "Another thing I’m working on now is a collection of small-group V-Discs. That will be out in the summer, I hope, featuring all sorts of small group things. And then next year, we’ll probably be putting together a V-Discs big band collection. It was owned by the government, so it’s all public domain.” -
A late start to listening today, tasks got in the way and I didn’t have time to myself early in the morning as Lucinda came to life the same time I did. Starting off with The Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab One Step 2 LP box of this release I know so well. Waited about 3 years for this I think and was so excited to finally gei it. I have OG Lps, reissue LPs, and one of nearly every cd and SACD release of this title which is so much a part of my listening world and has been from about '72. Unfortunately. . . Record One, Side One is defective in a way that I have never had an LP be defective before: there is a very loud low frequency buzz that rattles woofers the entire first side, covering up the music itself. The other sides seem to be fine. Sigh. I’ll have to figure out how to get a replacement for that LP.

Bill Evans issues on Resonance & Elemental: What do people think about them?

Ha! I understand how that is, and it's not necessarily your choice. Thanks, it's getting better--and I was able to spend hours away from home without guilt yesterday at a "protest" without guilt or consequence, which is a new thing. -
Bill Evans issues on Resonance & Elemental: What do people think about them?

Thanks! And yes, those are the good solutions. I have ruled out one of my immediate ideas, starting to drink. It's a bit complicated as well as my dear wife is also grieving. . . and more vocally than I am wont to be, and that feeds my own feelings a few extra meals. But time, and perhaps later this year another dog, will help a lot. -
Bill Evans issues on Resonance & Elemental: What do people think about them?

Yes, they become family. This dog was a one person dog, and I was that person. It was a lot of responsiblity, but it is really a unique feeling to be loved the way she loved me. And this century I have lost all but one of the living beings that mean the most to me, and the cumulative effect has been heavy. Time will help. I had immediate positive reactions to all these Evans releases. . . I must be an anamoly. -
I didn't buy it today, in fact I ordered it what seems eons ago, but today the One Step Box release of Miles Davis Bitches Brew 2 LP set arrived.

Things are pretty good. . . my old blind and deaf dog passed two weeks ago and that has really impacted my life. I'm adjusting. -

Hello old friend. I share your enthusiasm for the Jamal recordings and agree that it is likely bolstered by the fact that I don't have a lot of similar recordings from Jamal. I do really like the Evans though, as well. I find them fascinating as they have varied trios and instrumentation, and varying recording characteristics, and they have been arriving with nice stretches of time between them, giving me a chance to enjoy and digest one and look forward to the next. Which I do, I found I was excited when the next was announced and then released. I look forward to the next. I think also adding value for me is that there are recordings of two drummers I really like with Evans and who aren't as heavily documented elsewhere: Jack DeJohnette and Marty Morell. And the recording quality of these releases range from good to very good, with one exception where the balance is not great, but in that case the bassist is so well-presented which I enjoy. -
Charles Mingus, Kenny Dorham, Freddie Hubbard for RSD 2025

I finally have gotten around to spinning this. I agree . . . the sound is actually in my opinion very good, as are the performances. Really excited to have and hear this.
