  1. No Monday off for me damnit. I'm going on a quick road trip tomorrow with a friend up to the Ft. Worth motorcycle show. Should be a lot of fun!
  2. Shane, my apologies: I was in a hurry and thought this was the Pathways to the Unknown book. I don't have this one yet. Check out the Amazon prices. . . . Thanks also for the kind words. Unfortunately I lost Helen on October 8. I'm copiing well.
  3. Open Get Up with It. It's amazing.
  4. I have quite a few (oh don't make me count!) Ellington recordings where he proclaims at the end of a number "Paul Gonsalves! Paul Gonsalves!" at least. . . twice. I don't think I have one where he lets us know about this tenor man. . . just once. . . .! Inquiring minds want to know: think I'll stumble across one?
  5. I'm a steamroller baby.
  6. Shane, if you think it looks fascinating I think you'll find it fascinating. I bought this when it came out and spent a part of an afternoon with it. . . .That was a very bad time for me to pick it up, my life having been cluttered with my wife's medical care and we were about to leave our home for a few more months at that time. . . .I was distracted, didn't get into the book as much as it deserved. I'll try to pick it up again soon. There's more to look at than to read really. I think you'll like it.
  7. Many Many happy hapyy returns!
  8. John, I'm not disputing you on the MP3. . . it's just I use compressed formats of smaller size (for storage reasons) and I do hear a difference between those and larger size, but it sounds good enough for my portable use and that's all I use the MP3s for, portable and noncritical use.
  9. Well, I'm not a headphone listener to cds, now MP3s of cds, yes, and they're compressed and don't present those same problems. I'm not that happy with the Labsons, not awful, just a bit too "digital" sounding to me and not exciting. The new ones and the RVGs sound exciting to me on my system. Every one has a different system and a different taste. These new ones are if I remember not as "loud" as they possibly could have been. Yes, the Village Vanguard box is excellent material. But in these instances where I've lived with the LP for a long time, I personally also like to have a cd that duplicates the original LP material.
  10. I'm a big fan of RVG remastering, and I think those "Deluxe" versions sound really good. I think the new version and the "Deluxe" version sound very similar. Both are really good transfers.
  11. I think the sound is better on the Coltrane titles, which I have been able to compare with several other versions. Is it worth upgrading for? Possibly, if you are one who likes to have "the best sound." My favorite two cd versions of these that I have heard: the new ones and the K2 Impulse versions from Japan. To me the new ones are a bit more dynamic than the K2 Impulse versions from Japan, if not quite as mellow.
  12. Many many happy happy returns!
  13. happy Guy Fawkes day and many happy returns!
  14. I was told to order this for myself as an Xmas gift and did. It came to about 115 bucks total (the set showed up in my basket at about 69 Euros because VAT was removed). 499 to go.
  15. HAVE NO FEAR. You will really enjoy the sound of those cds, loudness level is in the normal range.
  16. Okay, a girlfriend of mine bought me the new Impulse Albums Vol. 1 in an attempt to cheer me up. I have to say. . . these are a nice little digipaks. I have fun comparing these to other versions of the music I have. The sound is excelllent, rivals the K2 Japanese versions I have of some of these titles; the K2s are a tad mellower (a plus) and these are a tad more dynamic (a plus).
  17. I'm in. I can take Brent early in his stint. And I've the same interest as Tony in being rewarded for my patience. . . .
  18. Looks really good. . . and expensive.
  19. Good advice about buying the legitimate stuff. After that. .. if you want to buy the illegitimate stuff. . . As for the box remastering: I think it sounds realy good. So do Japanese individual releases I have of many of the albums. I haven't heard the US Verve single discs.
  20. The Lionel Hampton and Quincy Jones Mosaics are NOW available for preorder!
  21. Thanks for the correction. And your impression.
  22. Anyone know much about the Saturn "Aurora"?
  23. Honest to gosh, if I could run out and buy a car, I'd probably buy a Pontiac Solstice.
  24. Cool. My copy is flying my way.
