  1. I kindof like the place. I think I might post a few times.
  2. Many more happy happy returns!
  3. Agreed. I hope they're going away myself.
  4. It could mean a "crackdown." It could be something else as well, that Jazz Loft is no longer carrying items from a particular distributor for other reasons. Personally, I hope it's a crackdown, but this one example isn't the most compelling evidence (for me).
  5. Many many more happy happy ones!
  6. I'm just retiring from the State. . . I intend to work (I need to work if I want to buy cds and dvds and books!) at something fun and less stressful. At this time I'm targetting NONOFFICE work. I've had enough of offices. Lucrative. . . but high stress!
  7. Listening to DP 18 right now, not one of the best, but fun.
  8. The sound on this Hampton set is excellent!
  9. Oh I'm using Capitol Metro for going back and forth to work for the most part, at least presently and at least until I retire from the state and do something else after February. Riding home from work is so little fun, creeping along the street bumper to bumper at the hour I get off work, that it's easier and less stressful to get some walking and reading in and take the bus.
  10. See sidewinder's post above; he describes it pretty well. To my ears it's quite different than Spiral/Medina/Total Eclipse. I like it!

  12. I like those RVGs too. Thanks Kevin.
  13. Lots of great music. Try to get the Hawkins four cd set if you can! I LOVE the Lester Young, if I had to have ONE that would be the one!
  14. Get deeper into Beethoven
  15. I voted for Masterpieces by Ellington just because I love it so much. You should also look in to The Piano Player on Storyville. Awesome! And Hot Ptah has offered you a nice little list.
  16. Jim, I'm glad this is how this has turned out. I pretty much felt it WOULD turn out this way. We care about the board, and we are grateful for all you've done, and we care about how this has impacted you and your family.
  17. Amen brother E! I got a good laugh out of the development of that thread this morning!
  18. Gonsalves and Nance are too Ellingtonians I think have really deeply enriched my listening life.
  19. I vote for monthly drives. . . . We need to get moderation out of Jim's hands (he can still be the Chief Executive Officer though!) so he doesn't feel that he's losing time to spend with the three really important persons in his life.
  20. Good move Al.
  21. Things are looking up! I was in a position to make a generous (I thought) donation and did. I think that the financial part of the equation will be easy to solve, and the moderation volunteer issue should also prove to be a small hurdle at most. Win win on the way I think! No trips to Chicago for me, but have fun!
  22. Those lunches sound great! I don't have those same options here! But I make do. I remember the few days I spent in Roma in 1971 very fondly. . . .
  23. porcy, I went to lunch at a place called "Hog Island Deli" about five blocks away (nice walk there and back). Got what they call the "Old Italian Hoagie." Pretty darned good! http://www.hogislanddeli.com/
