  1. Both the Parker Xmas '49 (just the Bird tracks, not the entire concert) and the One Night in Birdland tracks can be found on this Proper box:

A nice article on The Basement Tapes by Christopher Caldwell: AWOL from the Summer of Love.
  4. One way, I'd think, would be to burn the files to a CD as an audio CD, then rip them back as mp3s. Maybe there'd be a little loss of sound quality, but I'd think it'd be fine for BFT purposes.
  5. Nope, that was 3/27/65:
  6. You're that guy. Actually, I'm sure you have a few companions. I want to flush 'em out. It's lonely out here!
  7. Nice review of "Made In Chicago" in WSJ.
  8. Are there any regular posters here who don't like Ornette's music, or am I the only one?
  9. http://download.recordstoreday.com/free/RSD_2015_RELEASES_WEBSITE.pdf Some interesting titles on this year's list. One thing that jumped out at me was Miles Davis: The Prestige 10 Inch LP Collection.
  10. I downloaded both SeaMonkey and Waterfox, but my Mac said each of them "can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer." I know I can override that setting, but...
  11. And Sony could put out an "Original Album Classics" package of Bud. It would contain the two RCA discs, A Portrait of Thelonious, A Tribute to Cannonball, and One Night at Birdland.
  12. I was thinking that Warner can now put together an "Original Album Series" package of Bud Powell. It would have the disc of Roost and Vogue masters, Bud Plays Bird, Bud Powell in Paris, The Return of Bud Powell, and Inner Fires.
  13. I got the package today, in good condition. It was interesting: the invoice inside the box was in Italian from amazon.it, but the box was shipped by Amazon U.K. Probably saves them on shipping, but I wonder whether that was part of the delay. Anyway, I'm happy; there's some great music here, and a lot that I'm looking forward to hearing for the first time.
  14. Interesting article in the Journal that may serve to "square the circle" on some of these audio arguments we've been having. Includes a conversation with Don Was about Blue Note. Hi-Res Audio Hijinx: Why Only Some Albums Truly Rock - WSJ
  15. First photo of Harrison Ford's downed aircraft
  16. The Eric Clapton is a good one. I saw it on MTV back in the day, taped it on VHS.
  17. Release date May 5: Hancock Miles
  18. It's been almost a month, and I still haven't received my amazon.it order. I'm hoping it's just due to the bad weather conditions on the east coast. Hmmm.
  19. True, but shipping from Japan adds quite a bit. I don't do bittorrent; too concerned about viruses.
  20. Thanks for the link. "New Wine in Old Bottles" is also very good. I am playing it right now. McLean is in great form. Nice transition to "Round Midnight" theme. Recommended. http://www.allmusic.com/album/new-wine-in-old-bottles-mw0000188133 What is KJLH? Kindness, Joy, Love, Happiness If anyone's interested in mp3 downloads, 4 of these Great Jazz Trio albums are available as the box set "Objects Appear Closer" from Amazon for $24.75. The 4 titles are KJLH, Direct From LA, Milestones, and The Great Tokyo Meeting. See: http://www.amazon.com/Objects-Appear-Closer-Great-Jazz/dp/B000W4KT8C
  21. It's also part of the Jazz on Vogue box.
  22. I haven't seen Whiplash, but it seems Iverson is too quick (eager?) to pseudo-psychoanalyze people he's never met based on one point of opinion.
  23. I remember owning the Japanese King vinyl of "Cool Struttin' Volume 2" where the liner notes writer (some Japanese guy) made the claim that Alfred Lion had nothing to do with the success of Blue Note, that it was all due to the musicians. Whatever.
