I was going to say that we should start a thread about Charlie Parker's suits, and that, of the two above, I preferred the pinstripe. Then a simple web search uncovered this: http://www.jazzwax.com/2010/08/charlie-parker-and-mckusicks-suit.html I don't know if it's the same suit, but it could be.
  2. Thanks for that, Larry. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but the mention of Fleisher reminded me about the Fleisher boxed set. Any thoughts on that? (And then back to Graffman.)
  3. I know nothing about Graffman, but I did notice one of those Sony boxed sets spanning his career. If you'll look at the comments on this Amazon page, you'll soon learn a lot about him: http://www.amazon.com/Gary-Graffman-Complete-Album-Collection/dp/B00C399368/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1426799404&sr=1-1&keywords=gary+graffman+complete+album+collection
  4. It begins here, and goes onto subsequent pages. CDJapan is pretty easy to navigate, and I do the same routine each time: 1) Go to www.cdjapan.co.jp 2) In the left-hand column, choose "Music" 3) On the next page, in the left-hand column, choose "Jazz / Fusion" 4) On the next page, scroll down about halfway down the page, to the section "Top Future Releases." Click on "See more" 5) At the top of the next page, under "Search Tools", find the "Sort by" box and choose "Latest First" Oh, and there are two Buddy Rich titles, for all you Ethan Iverson fans.
  5. Universal seems to have an interesting approach to their May 20 release: focusing on particular artists and reissuing titles from across their labels. So there's Basie from Pablo and Verve, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis from Solid State and Horizon, Gil Evans from Verve, Impulse and Antilles, etc.
  6. Curious if the recent Japanese reissues have been speed-corrected.
  7. This box also has the 3/31/51 tracks from Summit Meeting at Birdland.
  8. Both the Parker Xmas '49 (just the Bird tracks, not the entire concert) and the One Night in Birdland tracks can be found on this Proper box:

A nice article on The Basement Tapes by Christopher Caldwell: AWOL from the Summer of Love.
  11. One way, I'd think, would be to burn the files to a CD as an audio CD, then rip them back as mp3s. Maybe there'd be a little loss of sound quality, but I'd think it'd be fine for BFT purposes.
  12. Nope, that was 3/27/65:
  13. You're that guy. Actually, I'm sure you have a few companions. I want to flush 'em out. It's lonely out here!
  14. Nice review of "Made In Chicago" in WSJ.
  15. Are there any regular posters here who don't like Ornette's music, or am I the only one?
  16. http://download.recordstoreday.com/free/RSD_2015_RELEASES_WEBSITE.pdf Some interesting titles on this year's list. One thing that jumped out at me was Miles Davis: The Prestige 10 Inch LP Collection.
  17. I downloaded both SeaMonkey and Waterfox, but my Mac said each of them "can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer." I know I can override that setting, but...
  18. And Sony could put out an "Original Album Classics" package of Bud. It would contain the two RCA discs, A Portrait of Thelonious, A Tribute to Cannonball, and One Night at Birdland.
  19. I was thinking that Warner can now put together an "Original Album Series" package of Bud Powell. It would have the disc of Roost and Vogue masters, Bud Plays Bird, Bud Powell in Paris, The Return of Bud Powell, and Inner Fires.
  20. I got the package today, in good condition. It was interesting: the invoice inside the box was in Italian from amazon.it, but the box was shipped by Amazon U.K. Probably saves them on shipping, but I wonder whether that was part of the delay. Anyway, I'm happy; there's some great music here, and a lot that I'm looking forward to hearing for the first time.
  21. Interesting article in the Journal that may serve to "square the circle" on some of these audio arguments we've been having. Includes a conversation with Don Was about Blue Note. Hi-Res Audio Hijinx: Why Only Some Albums Truly Rock - WSJ
  22. First photo of Harrison Ford's downed aircraft
  23. The Eric Clapton is a good one. I saw it on MTV back in the day, taped it on VHS.
