I am familiar with Marquis Hill, have heard him live in various groups including prior Blacktets. He is a terrific young trumpet player. Most recently I have enjoyed him live in a trio with Matt Ulery and Makaya McCraven which -my guess since I haven't heard the record- played a bit in a freer mode than the Blacktet.

I thought that was quite interesting.

I heard William Parker with 3 different drummers this last weekend, Avereeayl Ra, Isaiah Spencer and Alvin Fielder and he never sounded boring to me. Unfortunately I had to miss his set with Drake.
