  1. Think boats blasting foghorns in a synthetic fog. Yes, I liked it. SMJZ LP.
  2. John Bunyan Billy Pilgrim Kurt Vonnegut
  3. Eve Ensler Eva Longoria Eve! (interesting name if you think about it as the very first)
  4. I've had a habit of starting the New Year with music that is special or hits the right theme (for me). I haven't given as much thought on music to wrap up the year, probably because I often go out on New Year's Eve. This year, I started off the New Year with Coltrane's "Sun Ship" followed by "Love Supreme." For the several preceding years, it was "Giant Steps" and "My Favorite Things." I haven't settled on this New Year's music. Anyway, wondering if any of you do something similar, and if so, what music you play to usher out the old and bring in the new.
  5. Never saw that cover for Tijuana Moods. I know! I had a heck of a time finding an illustration. Almost all list the one with the lovely senorita on it. I didn't even find it listed in Discogs. The album number is RCA APL1-0939. Jacket states "Formerly LSP 2533." The LP has an RCA Victor tan label.
  6. Virgil Virgil Caine (is the name, and I served on the Danville train) Aeneas
  7. Afraid I may have bought a bit much, including this yesterday (both vinyl):
  8. Mysterious Mr. Tiller Penn and Teller Jethro Tull
  9. Was at both concerts (Hello neighbor!), especially loved the Watts/Weston. Hi Hoppy, we needs must meet next time -- or have we already? Anyway, must come up with elaborate plan for identification, like red roses or Nats caps.
  10. Van Morrison Morrisey Joe Morris
  11. Yeah, I like that one a lot. Review for those who are curious. Good review Clifford. I like your comparison to The Thing. For my part, I find Mats stuff to be somewhat variable. I prefer him in situations like The Thing and Tarfala, but I've not been won over by his experiments in electronics. I appreciate that he wants to expand his palette, but i don't think he touches on his strengths in that kind of music. Just my taste perhaps.
  12. White Fang Jack London Julie London
  13. Jonathan Livingston Seagull Steven Seagal Bird
  14. For Butcher, for a start, try "Fixations" "Optic" and "News from the Shed" on Emanem (can order directly from them), or some of the titles on Clean Feed. This is really just scratching the surface. Butcher, I think, is one of the most creative minds in music today. Oh, btw, somehow or other I forgot to list Cecil Taylor in my initial post. So consider it listed
  15. TARFALA TRIO: SYZYGY. Gustafsson, Guy, Strid. Delicacy and power. Gustafsson really is on form here. Double LP (plus 7" vinyl) on No Business.
  16. I'm sorry to hear that KKJZ is even worse, although cold comfort. I've actually communicated with BGO in a variety of ways and suggested just those ideas you mention in your post. They absolutely don't get it. Ironic that they now have a transmitter than can send their signal further, but their programming becomes ever less worthy of being heard.
  17. Mr Darcy Elizabeth Bennet Arnold Bennett
  18. Cecil with Jimmy Lyons, Raphe Malik, Ramsey Ameen, Sirone, Ronald Shannon Jackson. SO fine!
  19. Bambi Woods Bambi La Bamba
  20. Coleman Hawkins Yardbird The Yardbirds
  21. I believe it was a put-on. But even so, the "pitch" is what you see and hear every day on American TV in infomercials. Whatever they are selling, it is always: FAST. EASY. SIMPLE. Listen to one of them sometimes. All such pitches promise to make you rich or sexy or both.
  22. Bob Brookemeyer Sam Rivers River Styx
  23. Clarence Thomas Jim Crow Dred Scott
