  1. Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out. I knew Ellison was into the music but I'm not aware of this project. Too bad he never finished any other major works other than "Invisible Man". It really did not make much sense when you consider the unusual span of time between IM and his never released complete second major project.
  2. I like Braxton also. My first album was New York, Fall 1974. Love the cover and the music.
  3. Life without Bird would be like a tree without leaves....GOTTA HAVE IT!!! I can never get enough of listening to him. I have a very extensive collection of his music on both records and CD.
  4. Late post on my part but I'm a big Threadgill fan also. Seen him a number of times and I've always dug his creative vibes and work.
  5. Been getting into a lot of Vjay Iyler lately......
  6. Well, I'm a Monk manic so I'll probably spring for it......*shrugs*......
  7. Well, good luck. I'd love to read any stories about Bird. Earl Garner and Art Tatum at Bird Land!!
  8. I have copies of Coda that date back to the 1970's. Different magazine back then.......
  9. Nice! I wish I could attend the exhibit. Seen Sun Ra before in San Diego a few times and met him. Visionary without questions.
  10. Yeah, it's kind a weird. I was very excited about this book but Amazon (US) has nothing to offer. Has anyone gotten a copy yet?
  11. Yeah, you have to get them when they are around. Never know when you'll be beating your head against a wall because you failed to act impulsively and get it when ya can!
  12. Nice info post. I'll have to check this out.
  13. Glad to see this interest in Mingus. I too have wondered why he has not received more attention for his many complex and artistically awesome compositions.
  14. Looks interesting but I love the sessions with Basie......
  15. I'm down loading the Ellington show right now. Who are your future show artists? What do you have planned for the next six months?
  16. Dang! I missed it. I guess I should stay tuned to the board on a daily basis. Roy is an incredible guy. Never pass up the opportunity to see him live.
  17. Sad to hear this. So many fine players never got their just recognition. I've never understood this. Some people get all the accolades and media attention (desvered or not) while others labor in artistic obscurity.
  18. Not a major fan of his but the man can play!
  19. Sorry to hear this. Thanks for posting the obit. I was not aware......
  20. Outstanding! Please continue the great work. Unlike many people, I have no special era for Trane. I love the Prestige, Atlantic and Impulse years equally. Just a true Trane disciple I guess......
  21. Classic cover and music. I love it...!
  22. Late post from an outsider: Nice to see folks who can look past their knife fights and move on....
  23. I listen to KSDS 88.3 FM in San Diego. I have issues with a number of the dj's (many are weak wannabes) but they do have a few who are on the money. The super star is Leo Gates who has a no-nonsense straight ahead hard core show. Extremely knowledgeable about the music and plays excellent tunes.
  24. Thanks. I'm a big Bil Evans fan. I'll check your show out.
