I have this session. It's been released numerous times. Same product, different box. The music is so historical, it is a must for any serious Miles disciple.

Anything by Mingus is good. I love the mans music....

Interesting stories. I haven't really noticed any difference but I haven't been burning lately either. Perhaps this is something I need to look into.

You can go to somewhere like Fry's and get an A/D converter with a USB output to you PC (or laptop). You can then load your old VHS/ Beta tapes to your hard drive and use the applicable software to edit the video for a DVD burn.

This should jog everyone's memory......

This is a late post but the thread about Giuseppi Logan caught my eye. I recall many years ago I was in New York and I asked drummer Sunny Murray about Giuseppi Logan. He had a sad story about the man which ended with him being a bag man in the streets. Glad to see others know about this interesting talented obscure musician. I have all his ESP recordings. Oh yeah! I was at Amoeba and Rasputin’s in Berkeley a day before I went to the Monterey Jazz Fest last year. Needless to say, you can find some nice original vinyl at both places. Some of it is in decent condition. Every time I go I end of buying records I already have. Can't help myself..............

Bought a pristine original laminated Impulse gate fold copy (vinyl record) from a good friend who had four copies. Now I have two.......

So sad. Even though I detest the idea of rearranging the original venue, I guess it's a matter of harsh economic times, a very common and pandemic malady these days. I was in S.F. last year and I was in a book store somewhere in the Fillmore district. The woman in the book store was listening to some hard core music (Cecil Taylor, Albert Alyer, etc) when I asked her where were some good venues for serious music in S.F.. She said there was really none outside of Yoshi's. I was stunned to hear this but this is what said.......*shrugs........

I saw Sun Ra a few times in person in San Diego. Last time was at the Belly Up Tavern. A huge venue for live music. They can out one by one on the stage, each musician playing until the entire band with dancers was in full swing. One of the hippest shows I've seen.

One of my all time (and first) Tatum recordings. The record contains the first piano solos cut by Art in 1933 and a solo concert perfromance from 1949. Check it out......

Loved his playing. I saw him last year (2008) in San Diego. He was in very bad shape. Couldn't play three notes. He was in great spirits but physically the man was beat down. It was sad. He will be missed....that's for damn sure.

Hassan Ibn Ali made a very fine recording with Max Roach and Art Davis for Atlantic. I've been searching for information about him but I can't find anything. He was a very interesting piano player who played with a very original and different style. I was very impressed with this recording. Does anyone have any information about this man......?

I agree. Although not complete and having a mediocre to poor sonic quality, the historical significance of the music outweighs the latter....IMO.

Good. Although CD's offer great flexibility (making your own compilations or having access to otherwise obscure recordings), there is nothing like a hard copy of a record (gate fold and laminated is the ultimate!) and playing it. Yeah, ya gotta get up and turn it over but the music is totally superior to a CD.
