  1. going going ......bid now
  2. Not collectable cause most of the unreleased stuff was released in Japan which are better pressings and bring money. These BN's are destined to stay cheap which allows newbies into vinyl to get into the music. I just happened to discover a Prestige two fer called Sonny Rollins mastered by Rudy Van Gelder and in mono. Has different tracks except for two than the Saxophone Colossus later two fer and includes some early stuff that smokes. One track was so straight ahead in a modern rhythmic sense it brought to mind McLaughins playing with Tony Williams Liftime. Interesting enough the labels say stereo but RVG scratched out the ST prefix in the matrix numbers and kept it mono. thanks Rudy! sounds great!
  3. ← I put it in the same catagory as the Bing Crosby - David Bowie pairing.
  4. I listed on Ebay a 1977 release by Astrud Gilberto on a small label that features a duet with Chet Baker! pretty strange huh? Just search for Astrud or seller jazzhound.
  5. I am not buying either one so I don't have to make any more critical judgements.
  6. Jim , PM sent.
  7. does preamp have phono stage? does cd player play HDCD and how old is that model? thanks
  8. Lost my dac and a few other pieces of my stereo in a flood. If anyone has a spare dac or cd player on the shelf they would sell or rent or lend me in exchange for some records or cds let me know. Just need something to use until figure out what to do.
  9. yea but if you only want one song off a cd its o.k.
  10. I don't get music off the internet yet, but I read about this service in the PS Audio newsletter. Seems this delivers far superior sound to the other services. Is this the only music site that delivers uncompressed files?
  11. Looking for a 1st or 2nd pressing of Straight Ahead by Oliver Nelson. thanks
  12. No thanks. the Oliver Nelson record I ordered from the list turned out to be a reissue. I figured since they wanted 50 bucks for it and listed it as New Jazz label it was an original. NOT!!! forget these jokers. unless you like paying thru the nose for everything.
  13. gee, i wonder why he wants to remain anonymous? ← Don't waste your time sending a want list like I did. Spent a few hours assembling a long one and got back an email saying they didn't have any! Not one!
  14. I have a stereo pressing from sixties I think is original but it has a different cover than the mono versions I have seen on EBAY. anyone know if indeed the original stereo pressing came with a different cover?
  15. get an original. plenty of stereo copies around. nothin like the real thing.
  16. around 130 for a stereo Time label Booker Little record?
  17. the original mono pressing sounds fine. Many riverside recordings incorporate a sigificant room sound which some musicians often wish for. When they hear it they often don't like it as the instruments lack presence.
  18. sold all mine for 4 bucks a pop. don't miss them.
  19. looking for: original Shades of Redd Way out West Stereo records version Back To the Tracks 45 RPM version thanks
  20. I get the impression that many listeners thinks tubes are great because they love the nice relaxed sound they deliver in some systems. But the reality is acoustic instruments whether string or brass contain alot of noise in their sonic profile. The pretty sound tube systems provide exists only in tubeland. I recently recorded a concert band and as usual was struck by how harsh much of the sound coming off the stage was in comparison to recorded sound most people experience every day at home. In fact recording engineers spend alot of energy removing midrange via eq and by using ribbon mics for example to smooth out the sound. Tube gear sounds good because it sounds good, not because it is accurate. The opposite is the case with solid state. It can sound harsh because the real source music is often quite harsh and aggressive sounding.
  21. you won't find them in recording studios powering playback systems. For many good reasons.
  22. when I hear it I will believe it.
  23. It has been shown over and over again that what sounds musical is often distortion. I believe the more distortion is removed from the system, the more musical nuance and details come through. The few very clean tube amps and preamps are very expensive and sound similar to solid state in most ways like tight bass and speed. The system I had when I was a kid comprised of a Hafler solid state preamp and a Dynaco SS amp. the front end was a turntable with an Empire cart. the midrange was warm and sweet and very musical. When I changed to shure cart the magic disappeared. Which goes to show if you get the front end right you don't need those silly tubes.
  24. there are some nice ballads at the end but the synthesized bass and crappy electronic percussion ruins it for me. I actually got quisey from a few tracks. Rather listen to old Airto albums. 100 x better. Flora 1000 x better.
