  1. True. We had the Washington Homestead Grays for a decade.
  2. That's funny! In honor of Selig, name 'em Money Stunt I and Money Stunt II.
  3. Where would you locate two new teams? Is it time for Monterey yet? That would be awesome. San Juan? The Expos were stationed there part time for a year. I'm just glad the league didn't contract a few years ago, or else DC would not have a team at all.
  4. Not a bad idea! Best 2 out of 3.
  5. Who's pitching for Atlanta and St. Louis on Friday?
  6. They are all in the playoffs, but what is at stake is winning the division and home field "advantage," which will be a real advantage in the future but not so much this year. Division winners Yankees Tigers Athletics Wild card Orioles Rangers UNLESS Orioles win tonight v Tampa and Yankees lose to Red Sox, which would tie them with NY. Not sure but I believe they would actually play a one game playoff to decide which one is division champ and which one is wild card. I might be wrong about that. Bottom line: It's not so much your argument but your sentiment I agree with, that Selig is an idiot.
  7. Congratulations to Oakland, but look out Texas! What a final day of the season! Not quite like last year, but pretty darn good. Still to come: Orioles drama.
  8. Nationals top Philly 5-1. We will be playing the winner of Braves and Cardinals Sunday. And I hope the days off don't hurt us.
  9. Also, congratulations to Baltimore! They were my local team from 1985 when I moved to Maryland until 2005 when the Expos moved to DC. There has NEVER been a year in MLB when both Washington and Baltimore were in the post-season. No other World Series match up would be more improbable this year.
  10. Note that the Washington Nationals franchise (formerly the Montreal Expos) won the NL East when Atlanta lost to Pittsburgh last night. Manager Davey Johnson is reserving Cy Young candidate and 21 game winner Gio Gonzalez for a start on either Saturday or Sunday, going with left hander Tom Gorzelanny for tonight's game, if it can be played at all after today's all day soaking rain. A good night for the city! And time to get our mojo working again!!!
  11. Poo Yaille! We're getting creamed by the Cards tonight! We'll win the next 2 of the 3.
  12. The Cajun/Creole selections are not rare. What they needed were some titles by Angelas LeJeune or Douglas Bellard and Kirby Riley. Still I am sure I will get it. I don't have most of this stuff.
  13. Kind of grates on me that the local media is saying this is the first baseball postseason DC has seen since 1933, when DC actually had a dynasty in the Negro Leagues, the Grays (splitting time with Pittsburgh) until 1948. A collective decision to forget city history. I am not the only one on the DC baseball talk boards who feels this way, but 1933 seems to be the misinformation that's sticking in the Columbian district.
  14. 20th win today for Gio Gonzalez, and a strong case for the Cy Young award.
  15. I think that was against DC, wasn't it? Don't worry, y'all will get better soon by building the farm system.
  16. What? Chipper Jones should be a first ballot Hall of Famer! No contest. He's getting some nice send offs and prizes around the league on his final tour! Hoping we bounce back this week against the Dodgers. Going to the next Monday day game against Milwaukee.
  17. Have a good one!
  18. Whoa...leaving it out they are...not cool... See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/19/AR2008061902831_5.html "Cheney hoped that a winter's rest would help. His last major league win came June 9, 1964, against Kansas City. He went to Hodges in the sixth inning and told him the pain was unbearable and that he couldn't continue. "Hodges said, 'Ah go on out there; you can do it,' " according to Jim Hartley, who interviewed Cheney for Nats News, the newsletter of the Washington Baseball Historical Society. Cheney finished the game but told Peary he had tears streaming down his face by the end. When Hodges came by his locker to congratulate him, Cheney said, "That's the last win you're going to get out of me, you son of a bitch." His next start against Minnesota lasted three innings."
  19. I think they are leaving out the part about Cheney never forgiving manager Gil Hodges for ruining his arm and shortening his career, making him pitch through a lot of pain. This is before Hodges' sainted days with the Mets.
  20. Trying to think of how to describe Duquesne Whistle. Does it sound like old pop, like Hoagy Carmichael old? Are any of the songs you've heard country sounding? Pop Stoneman and Roy Acuff did songs about the Titanic.
  21. That's a most interesting thing. It's not CDs that suck, it's albums. And if you mainly want individual songs, no point in buying CDs. This is a bit of a paradigm shift. MG well, i guess you could also call it the return of the "single" ... It's cheap, because even singles had two songs, side A and side B
  22. Depends on the post season. I think Dusty Baker should be considered too. In the AL who's managing in Oakland? Shoot, if Baltimore gets to the post season, gotta consider Showalter!
  23. First time I saw the video, I was just: What The Heck Was That???????? I still am, as a matter of fact. Strange little posse he's got walking around. And you don't know why!
